NEW Disco owner wants good workshops near brisbane

Post by Guzzi »

Gday,
One of my workmates has just bought himself a 2000 series 2 discovery,
TDI 5, auto, 160000 km.
What he wants to know is, Who is the reputable/knowledgeable Landrover workshop in the Brissy/ Toowoomba area?
Also what should he be looking at in the way of known problems for this model (sell it and buy a toyota answers are not required).
And last but not least what mods are worthwhile?

Thanks in advance

Why did he buy it??
Reputation, Comfort, Off road ability and OH yeah hes 200cm , 140kg and its the only thing he sat in he didnt hit his knees on the dash or his head on the roof.

Umm, no answers. Does that mean there's no such thing as a reputable workshop?

The only non LR mechanic that I've used for servicing is Rick's 4WD in Nerang. Awesome but usually booked 4 weeks in advance. Focus is on wider range of rover stuff (older) but can handle a DII easy.

Don't bother with LR - the guys in the workshop may know a trick or two but their service desk's operational policies are sickening at best. Taking your car there would be, to quote BBC Top Gear "less fun than drowning"

Plenty of great places to get parts from though - local, interstate or even via UK - Anywhere other than LR themselves, who seem to have just implemented an outrageous new parts pricing policy that really does make them look silly.

Probs - Dunno, never had one, never paid much attention.
- Maybe front drive shaft wears out at DC joint?
- Do a search here and on DISCOWEB or similar

Mods - What does he want to do?
Consider:
- Upgraded chip and intercooler from 'Bruce Davis' (I think)
- Tyres & 2" spring lift
- Centre Diff Lock actuator
- And to go a little bit further off road again, rear diff lock

A mate of mine uses MR Automotive. He is happy with the work they do - honest and the prices aren't too bad.
M.R. AUTOMOTIVE
182 Anzac Ave Redcliffe 4020
(07) 3284 6688

Also Have heard good things about Rovercare (apart from their prices).
Mike Hall's Rover Care
U 1/ 6 Monte St Slacks Creek 4127
(07) 3209 1970

Mods:
If it is the model without the centre diff lock, then fitting one of them would be a very good idea - kits are available.
Other mods depend on what he wants to do with it.
