I was after some advice on what shocky to use. I have a 3.1TD 97 Jack. Its been lifted some time ago (b4 I got it) looks like about 2 inches over standard. I will hopefully be doing a 40mm body lift and running 33's under her in the very near future. The current shocks are completley stuffed, they were tough dogs. They gave very little down ward travel.

Any advice would be helpfull

I'd recommend the Old Man Emus. My ranchos have a nice ride, but seem kind og junky. The fronts can be stock length, but you may want to run something longer in the rear. I run about 4" of lift (OME 912s + 2.5" sapcer for a dodge ram truck) in the back, but I've been please w/ the length of the rancho's I run in the rear (application guide lists for a '90s Nissan Patrol).

As the front end rebound travel is governed by the control arms most aftermarket shock should be satisfactory (based on length only) for the front end, the valving on some may leave a little bit to be desired. It still comes back to how much money do you want to spend?

If upto $300 / pair, I would recommend a EFS or Old Man Emu, both of these units would have been properly developed and built from quality parts.

If you wish to spend $350 to $450 / pair, I would recommend a Koni or Bilstein. Both superior units to most on the market but require a little more investment.

hey mate i got a 94 version of yours i have just put in a 2 inch lift i asked a heap of people what they thought with mixed answers in the end i went with the EFS shocks as there seemed to be a lot of people happy with them and very few that werent. I am also happy with them they provide a comfortable ride with no problems and they are also performing great off road and they will also out travel the tortion bars without a problem.

i put the full efs set up into a 98 jack, t/bars coils and shocks. 40mm lift all round. stiffer than standard, so it was grouse on road, off road it was good when loaded up, but was restricted in the articulation due to the higher spring rates when "empty".

shocks were also valved a bit too stiff on compression when vehicle is empty, but were ok with 300 kg or more onboard.

I'll probably stick that gear into the new 03 widetrack i have got, it has an aux tank and winch so the ride wont be as hard due to the extra weight.

I didnt go OME only because they no longer do the T/bars for the jack and i wanted a full matched setup.
