arb air locker new clip system

just fitted mine. there is a clip (that holds on to the bearing preload adjuster ring) where there used to be screws on older models that hold the air fitting onto the side of the bearing cap (the one around the axle. when the crown wheel moves back and forth the copper air tube can move 6mm back and forth possible chaffing or stress cracking imo. has this been a problem? i will ring arb again in the morning. i just think that the screws were a more secure method. trying to decide if i should mod it or leave it

do they come with a warrenty?

copper tubing will fracture if moved back and forth ...

try n test it see how long it lasts

I have heard from some that work at ARB that they have changed the setup and they have experianced quite a few failures. Can't remember exactly what the problem was, but could find out.

Ive actually come to the conclusion it was my fault. I had the tube sitting too far out from the centre and it was actually rubbing on the diff housing. So it caused the seal housing to rooster over a little. Just enough for the seal to come out. Since fixing this i have had no more trouble.

But i Agrea the copper tube has to be being fatigued because of the movement. It was designed this way because with the old system you could actually bolt the housing on off centre so seals would wear premiturly. The new ststem is full floating so should remain concentric at all times.

Brass is possible. But does that make a difference?

i know for a fact copper is garunteed to crack after alot of vibrations/knocks(cant think of the scientific type terms for it), brass I'm not so sure about but a whole lot of fittings are made out of brass.

I do stand to be corrected though, only surefire way is to call ARB

It's not a problem, the seal housing is designed to have movement in it as you described. It is vital that the tube does not contact any other parts of the diff though as it will obviously wear through. If the clip that holds the preload adjuster doesnt sit very well just bend it in a bit with a screwdriver.

As for the seal housing clip (the one thats supplied with the locker) there was some suspect clips floating around that didnt hold the seal housing in place flat against the diff and would allow it to twist out at an angle when it was rotated. These clips are identifiable by the two 'u' shaped sections at the ends of the clip looking more like \_| instead of like |_|. Does that make sense? lol

The pipe is made of copper coated steel (bundy tube).

i rang arb today and they assure me there has been no dramas. both guys (1 in melb one in bris that called me back - great service) said they both thought that this might be a problem when they first looked at it but assure me that they have never seen one fail due to the movement.

i am almost certian the tube is copper only - no steel, brazed on to the steel housing. i can see why it free floats like yous said ruff but i am sure making it more radily secure would be better.

i think i will leave it alone and stop dwelling on it
