That may be torque peaks .. but you will find that the 4.2 will have that sort of torque across 90% of it's rev range, whereas the 2.8 has it across 10% of the rev range

This is not true if you're referring to the RD28T in the GU, it produces 292nm.

Yeah the Gu 2.8 has an intercooler but the difference is that peak torque with the smaller engine is 600rpm higher up than td42. This is what makes the old 4.2 feel better off road.
