hey guys and girls


i thought it be a good day to replace the points in the GQ ripped out the old put in the new, played around a bit whacked it together

now it wont start is there something im missing something i havent done im at a total loss???
i kinda need irruning by sunday as my camry runs out of rego and it has one or two things need fixing before i can rwc it and change the rego name to mine and so on


help would be good right now guys thanx matt

might sound silly but did you set the gap right?,another easy mistake is to leave the rotor button/arm out.

if your point gap is too big the car wont start also make sure u havent knocked the coil lead off or anything like that

First check your pints gap. Second did you remove the dizzy? If so you will ahve to get no.1 cyl at top dead center. Then fit the dizzy. Make sure that you rotor button is inline with no.1 cylinder on your cap. Then just adjust timming to suite.

Also make sure the wire from the pionts is not earthing out on the body of the dizzy

i didnt touch any thing else, roatr arm back in and the bolt to hol it
made sure there were no cracks in the distributa lid made sure all leads were in thight


i did try to set the gap but it had me stumped a bit:) as i aint sure what sort of gap got to be set?????????

i only got a really basic feller gauge i think i used a 30
probly should of used a buisness card

Gap should be 0.45-0.55

Have you checked if you have any spark from the coil?

ok thats my trouble i only have a 30 feelert gauge might hed down to supa crap and get one

i just use a bit of card torn off an old spark plug packet ect works a treat for the gap. im beyond farting around with feelers its only points not rocket science. good idea to keep a set in ya glove box with the tools to change them. then when thay die in the bush its no worrys.

yeah the old man sujested a buisness card not prefered but works apparantly

did pic up a set for 9 bucks at supacrap rom 0.04mm to 1.0mm 25 blades
going to go get stuck into it and see if i can work it

nice. pawnbrokers are pretty good for used handtools. there was one in my suburb that sold spanners and sockets for a dollar each. i have about 40 spanners now, none of them a matching set.

yeah i know that well,
as iv got a tool chest filled with stuff but not enought

i also have a seperate tool box purely for my boilermaking
