I try to keep it to 5000ks, but sometimes it goes out to 8 or so, depending on the work I am making the engine do.
If I was towing my camper around Australia, I would try to do it more regularly, but with some big gentle highway km, I don't mind running it out to 8 or so.
For the sake of $70 bucks or so 4 times a year, (20-30ks per annum) it's cheap insurance.

After reading these posts I noticed that my oil light was staying on for a while after start up. I did an oil and oil filter together with air filter and noticed that the oil light goes ou almost instantly on start up. BTW my replacement filter is a Rayco

Those filters have the valve inside them, compared to the other TD42's that have it on the body work. Was talking to dude at Blackburn Nissan today about them.... The valve is required, thus needing the $ filters.. :-s

The two Fleetguard numbers to suit a TD42T are LF3638 (no by-pass valve. Nissan pt. # 15208-43G00) for the full flow filter, and LF3863 for the combination filter (Nissan pt # 15208-20N10, thread size 1" x 12 pitch).
Interesting how others have had the crook ADBV experience. I've heard of it on Ryco's, and have just experienced it on four consecutive Donaldsons (were totally empty when spun off the filter head), The Donaldsons have been fine in the past.
I ordered some Wix 51647 (full flow) as US made Wix filters use a silicon ADBV.
When they turned up, they were bloody Sakuras with a Wix Pt. # stuck on the box. The oil light now takes 8 seconds to go out after standing overnight. As it was a special order I had to take them, at $20 each + $8 freight when a Sakura normally costs less than 10 bucks.

Are people still happy with the fleetgaurd filters?
The blue nissan ones really take a long time for the light to go off, I was useing the Purolator ones and they were definatly better than the nissan ones.

my girlfriend use to work in supercheap auto and she saw a few costomers come in complaining that there valvoline oil filters were physically breaking splashing oil and crap every where. Super cheaps reply was that valvolines pressure rating was low and if there was a spike of pressure (?) they were likely to break. Supercheap offered no financial support nor did valvoline.
nissan 98 gu 5" lift 37 creepys, 80%reduction gears, front locker and a gen3 and no money.

I agree coopers are crap as when on moreton island i had the element (guts) break and stick in the oil body that the filters bolt to ...what a pain. I have never used ac delco but i do know trat ryco are the only warantee cerified filter for most vehicles in australia apart from original . i run ac delco, and the light goes out pretty quick, and i have shit oil pressure.

I get white Nissan ones in my TD42, and no waiting for oil light to come on.
I have had cold dry start dramas ever since I bought my td4.2 GQ, I actually just gave up after spending over $140 trying different filters before I had even traveled 600km!!
God I hate standing there listening to it clatter then quieten down 8 seconds later just as the oil light goes out.
Anyway thanks to this thread I have finally got a real handle on what is actually going on. (armsup and smiling)
From info I gained before I gave up the ryco z9 has a 30micron element size, big enough to only catch rocks! (the 5 to 8 micron 'dirt' is what does engine bearing damage), and a good part of the reason I gave up and stuck with the genuine filters (with no idea how they really perform in microns) so does anyone know where the Fleetguard comes in on Micron size?

For those that are intersted it's now official, these filters are the worst filters I have ever used on any vehicle they are worse than crap they are shit-full, shit-full, shit-full.... crap, crap, crap!
Today I fitted 2 fleetguard filters and the change is miraculous to say the least.
I now have an extra 10psi at 3000rpm, pressure rises as soon as I start the car so I no longer need to sit and wait for the pressure to stabilise before driving off on every startup. Everywhere the oil pressure is now stabile and predictable, in short it is now behaving like an engine should and finally the car is now mechanically perfect -better late than never!
Really they couldn't pay me to use genuine oil filters again absolutely shit-full crap and I went through 4 genuines in a short period trying to find the problem and everyone must have been faulty or as I suspect working as designed!!! Absolute bargain basement filters at a top shelf price.
Looking good for tomorrows cold start I must say

For the Mack,Western Star dealer in cairns,We use fleetguard filters
on all of our company Vehicals & including workers,is 4 Patrols, 2 navaras
and about 6 landcrabs.All diesels.(oops rambling)
So,if you have a Cummins Engine dealer/agent in your area,they
Should be able to get you filters requriement for you,as they are the biggest suuplier of the stuff in Aust.

Mine takes two identical filters the part number of the filters I used today was LF3314 this cross references to repco z115s which repco says suits all years of GQ TD4.2 .
The Lf3314 has an ADBV and a bypass valve incorporated.
These engines will also run the Donaldson full flow synthetic media filter part # P169071 (it's actually a hydraulic filter) for premo, premo oil filtering (way down in the micron sizes needed for hydraulic equipment)but use in only one of the filter positions.
Now that I have just about nailed the Nissan shit filters as the problem and not actually one sticky valve in the multitiude of oil bypass valves in these engines. I will be swapping out a filter for the synthetic media Donaldson soon.
Fleetguard make a filter that cross references to the Donaldson syn media also but I have lost the part # will need to look into it again.
