Vitara Dana 44 hybrid axles
Vitara Dana 44 hybrid axles
Sam/Overkill,
Is this what you've been building?
Any plans on doing more or is this a one off for your rig?
Sounds like a really good way to get strength without putting on too much weight. Plus you can go high-steer easily.
Can you give us more details?

sam,
what sort of stuff do you guys have in terms of hardcore mods for zooks?
not just your usual spoa pads and stuff.

Guess it's ask Sam day eh
Mate, thinking about doing a project zook. Lots of different things are available, but I was thinking (for ease and relative cost) of getting one of the suspension kits from the US (rocky-road.com). If I can get the $$ together was thinking the YJ spring conversion in a spoa setup up front and coil conversion up rear, but I wonder how hard that would be to make legal here? Yep...I'd want to be able to drive it on the road...won't be going full extreme (keep costs down) so at max probably run 32s. Think this would be a good way to go, or do you think I would be able to get it done locally for similar cost? I have a mate in the US who is more than happy to send things to me to bypass *ahem* certain import costs
Also, how much do the calmini 4.5 xfer gearsets go for? Think you guys sell those...
Finally...is there an overkill invasion of the Northern Beaches going on? Keep seeing a few rigs around...the Vitara chick works at Warriewood square. Saw what I think was a patrol ute, big canopy on the back, heading up Mona Vale road..was a bit right foot happy and overtook him before I could fully check it out hehe. Thanks in advance matey, can't wait to see your next creation! My girlfriend Heather loved your old zook, think she wanted to steal it from you hehe.

Sam,
I'm just after some spoa perches for the front of my narrow track axles and some histeer solutions (preferably double knuckle over using 80 series rod ends).
Am in the process of fitting an aussie equivelant of the yanks CSC YJ s/r kit to my rig. Mind you everything has been modified to use aussie parts which are common not yanky parts.

sam,
Something like this that is 4" wider than stock would be kick arse.
Oh, and BJ I don't think it's chromed in that pic. Jimbo has just recently finished doing his 5 link rear end with a watts link and painted it in this real nice killrust shiat. outside the reflection makes it look like chrome, and only cost $3 a tin
maybe you should put some on the yellow beast?

width from flange to flange is 1420mm same as vitara rear ratio is 5.1
How wide do you need it I can make them any width you want and I think I can match the ratio.
you could build one using a toy centre - then murry can use a hilux 5.29 diff - or even a hy - pinon if he ponies up for the gears

overkill wrote:bubs we looked into that for Daves runner but th dana 44 axles are a smaller diameter than the toy ones at the stub axle so you would have to get axles made. More cost. We are looking into fitting dana 60 stuff.
$$$$$$ Dana 44 stuff is easy enough to get but 60's are hard to find and big $$$.
Do you think running a cruiser centre would be a better option with the 60 outers as they are a bit beefier than the hilux gear?
I like the diff Sam, good to see someone doing something different.
