5.29s with 35s (mtrs)

Post by krawlr »

hi guys i own a hilux surf (1kz-te,auto).

im currently running 33 inch mtrs and 4.88 gearing.im wanting to move up to 35s with 5.29 gears, the current setup with the 4.88s and 33s is low,but not low enough for real steep decents.

will running 35s and 5.29 change my highway speed much :?: and will it give me good low gearing for steep decents with the auto box :?:

there must be some good knowledge on this site from people who have done it and can sheer some light on the subject.

many thanks dudes :)

im running 5.29s with 35s atm and i hate it, yeah its got lots of low down gearing but when im on the freeway and im in 5th gear at 3000rpm and the turbo is on full bosst and i can only just hold it to 100ks a hours its a big let down. im planning on swapping back to 4.88s or 4.3s

That seems odd, i had 5.29's 35's n turboed 2.8 hilux 5 or 6 years ago. Was good, low gearing offroad, revved a little on the highway but would easily sit @ 110, 120 all day even towing trailers with 3 dirtbikes on.

Yeh it revved a little harder but wasnt always high on boost as motor wasnt really working that hard (load wise), just higher in the revs.

No way should it be struggeling to hold 100.
