That looks like an awsome job. We did something similar to my 2005 Toyota Tacoma. We used Dana 60 front and rear with 3 links and coilover springs. It has 40" Goodyear MTR Rock Spiders and alot of other goodies. Good job though on that Hilux. We're all jealous here in the States because we can't get the hilux here.

Thank you! We like the Hilux because it has a fully boxed frame where the Tacoma does not. We boxed the frame on mine in certain places because of the stresses a SAS would place on it. Plus these new Taco's are pretty wide and the Hilux is not. Then add my fiber glass fenders and bed sides and we are at 7 feet wide for a Taco. Thats one fat truck. :cry:

Well originally I nearly bought a patrol ute. After taking a long test drive (2hrs) I realized that the diesel in it is old school & I had been driving a new navara, mostly freeway ks. The patrol just didnt have the power & economy I have been used to. But I loved the patrols low torque. So I knew there had to be happy medium.
The new hilux common rail diesel was the next turning point. I gave one a short test knowing that the freeway was good, from mags report. I nailed the low end. As the navara low end was very very poor. After getting funny looks from the sales person & nailing it up steep hills ( hill start no accelerator). The engine impressed me as well. I knew that there is also more power ready to be unleashed witha new ECU. 22more kW & 69 more Nm. Considering max torque is from 1400 rmp. That means a very respectable 412 Nm just off idle. Good for 4bying.

Now why I SASed. I thought that would be obvious but I will explain it for you. The front suspension IsForShopping is poo. How could I 4by with very limited front wheel travel. Plus I needed enough lift for 35in tyres. For better 4bing as well. All just to give me a different truck than the norm. So I like to think outside the square.

Thanks to Overkill Engineering this can happen. My new still not rego hilux looks just like a factory solid front axle.

Having owned an 04 GU Ute and a 05 Hilux , personally i would have spent the 10k on the GU motor etc and made it a flier

each to their own i guess

Yes mates of mine have GU utes & spent money on the motor, but they were thirsty. They go great 4bying. There no doubt about that. However it wasnt what I wanted to spend my cash on.

about to put airlockers in now that they are released.

It doesnt have to be. Mine will be twin locked.
You dont want to buy a spare front end to your 05 hilux.

Yer but after spending 10k on the engine u still have a nissan :finger:

Good choice with the lux, i like it :cool: . So since it was done through toyota u have full waranty??

I had to sign a disclaimer with toyota dealer. So that if I have an accident due to the mods they are not at fault.
The warranty is on everything that hasnt been changed. Unless they can prove the mods were the cause. Its a Toyota, so fingers crossed nothing will go wong. Or I will just take them to court because it was all done through them. A bit nasty but you get that.

because the vehicle is yet to be registered and all the work at Overkill was done through Toyota. Does that mean that your lux has unofficially come from the factory with a solid front end and 35's. Or does it still need to go through the rigors of engineering?

Also, what Toyota dealer was it, they seem pretty cool for getting something out of the ordinary organised for you.

No solid front & 35's from the Toyota factory (Thailand) But may be they should have designed the new hilux like that. Yes it got engineered yesterday.
I took it for my first drive today, even though it's not registered (trade plates). It drove very smoothly for a high truck on 35's . A boat on wheels is a good way to describe the experience. I was just getting used to driving it by the end.
The Toyota dealer that let me do this through them is Brian Hilton at North Gosford, & Bernard is the sales man. .0243282888

Why not go coils on the rear too for that kinda $$$$$

Sneddo have you ever converted an ifs to live axle if you have you would understand just how much work is involved ......

let alone all the parts that were needed /diff /coils /80 series factory upper coil perches.... radius arms /rear diff centre to correct ratios the list goes on .....this rig would flex alot betta me thinkin with the way the front is setup ;) than an 80 and i'll just leave it at that ....

also the pumpkin on the front had to swapped to the other side due to the transfer output being on the other side of late model luxes......

then labour to remove ifs and fit all the above gear ...........



it adds up real quick and this lux looks majorly phat ....mr yota should of kept the live axle front

Oh yes there are problems to be sorted like the front wheel rubbing & setting the suspension springs right. However it's all about getting through blue slip right now ( the RTA pits ). So hopefully I will be able to post some pics up. Until then thats the last of my concerns.
If everything goes well I'll get delivery of my hilux this week. Rego n ready to roll.

Just went thru the exercise myself

Go to wreakers and get a burnt front cut, 80-100 series, Blow off all brackets/perches, use ends of radius arms make new ones up...... its all there for you, buy all x-over steering bits and pieces for $2k + $1k for front cut ;) + labour if you cant do it but pocket money left over

yes there is work involved but i was just curious
