Hi, can anyone tell me if it is a good idea to fit a turbocharger in my Gen1?
I know the problems with the turbo lag but i wonder, if i fit a small turbo (i.e. from VW 1.8L) wouldn't this minimize the problem? The specific VW engine has enough emmissions to turn the turbo from just 1500 rpm. I suppose this should be much easier for the 2.6L 4g54. Is that right?

As the yanks didn't get too many Diesel engines (any?) a lot of talk is about hotting up the petrol engines.

turbo for Gen1?
Sel, i have already checked this site and the topic you suggest. They talk about turbo from a starion wich is preety big for my taste. With this turbo is seems that i'm going to losse traction every time i hit the go pedal... Thanks for help anyway...
Scott, i care for the low end as i climb a lot with my paj and i use it most for off roading. Do you know someone that has done something like that? (small turbo). Is he ok with off road performance especially in steep grounds?

Sorry Takis, I don't know anybody who's done this, much less for a 4wd. This is just a general principle associated with turbos, and one of the compromises made when turbocharging a motor.
As a very rough guide, presuming the 1.8 has a redline somewhere between 6000 and 7000 rpm, do a simple guesstimation. (1.8*6000)/2.6=4150rpm, so I would expect you could get such a turbo to boost your 2.6 to 4000rpm without trouble, but beyond that I suspect power will fall off.
For offroad use, I'd be willing to give it a go.
