Hey there all hoping someone can answer a couple of quastions!

Have spent alot of time reading most of the posts on this subject,
so please dont give me heaps and tell me to use "search".

1: What vehicles have the Sandon 508 compressor?
2: Will the comp off a early 90`s Hilux do the job?
3: Everyone has mentioned pressure relief and check valves etc,
Is it possible to use a 240volt compressor (minus motor & compessor)
eg. cheap GMC or supercheap, that way u could just connect up hose
from `air con pump` wire it up and away you go??
Any help would be great!

The 508's are a fairly common comp. Im pretty sure they were used in Sigmas.

Dont know what an early 90's Hilux comp is, but if it pumps still, then it should be good.

I guess everything off a cheap 240V comp would work. Dont know if the pressure switch would work off 12V. This would be your only stumbling block, and fitting it all into your vehicle.

If you get a comp off a wreck, make sure you also take the delivery hose, the original one that goes from the discharge port of the comp. These put out large amounts of pretty hot air, and an original hose, with the aluminium fitting, is about the only thing I have found that will handle the heat without blowing.

Why do you want a sandedn ? get a york style vertical pump and go to kmart and get a $30 arlec 18 litre air tank, a 12v pressure switch, some hose and off you go. I have a spare york comp if want one :D

I used a standard 240v compressor switch and it works a treat, the good thing about these is it relieves the air pressure between the switch and compressor unit.

It would be better cost wise to buy a cheap compressor and just use the parts required.

The Sandon 508 also comes in the early 80s Commodores.

I just used the standard compressor off an 18r and works a treat, pressure switch is a 240V one (sounds same as sootygu's) I put an inline oiler just before the pump to mist a little oil in to keep it cranking well.
Is it beer o'clock yet??

SD 508's are in most 2.6 litre Mitsi's. My Triton has one.

I like aussie_stu's oiler idea too.
Some might find it's way into the tank and help prevent rust.
I suppose you would use air tool oil for this?

Thanks everyone for the reply`s, that helps me out.

A mate has a hilux pump in his shed, which he said I can have,
that way I dont have to chase another type up.

As for the york pump, starting to run out of room to fit it but thanks anyway! I also thought that a cheap compressor would have all the other goodies I needed to get it to work without to much hassle. And Ive got space under side of tray to put it.

yep - Sandon 508 compressore. I have one sitting in a cardboard box in my shed..... I really should do something about it.

am thinking of doing the same with my HJ60...can anyone identify what sort of pump these vehicles use...and would it be good enough to do the job.

Any a/c comp will work, but for how long will depend on the mods you do to it - ie oiling. The york style although bulkier is the pick for compressor use.
