GU SWB

Has anyone imported or tried to import one of these? If so, what was the outcme?

I too would like to know the outcome, or any information about a GU SWB being imported, I have only herd rumors that the car needs to be of 10y/o before its able to be imported is that true, due to conflicts of interest in the local market Eg, GMH,
If so then I guess you can just sit tight and wait it out. :)

I know someone who tried to import from NZ, but apparently Nissan put the no go on it somehow, could have been that law about close to local models or something, but yea it didnt happen..

He was quoted a price of under $40k landed in Aussie, and complied originally.

Also the car needs to be tested for Australian standards, anyone up for importing a SWB GU so they can drive it into a wall and make sure it pass's our safety standards?

There was talk on this too, apparently since it meets NZ standards, it will pass AU standards, thus not needing to crash test... Also since the LWB and SWB share lots, it was the other reason it passed.

Then when we were importing grey import bikes, we had to do the rideby test etc on 1 of each model, you get that 1 bike complied, then the rest are fine!

I have heard rumours there were troubles getting the car complianced because the body panels used weren't as tough as the LWB, not sure how true that is or how that theory was even worked out!

Love to cut one into a ute, but I think it will be unique enough as a SWB, plus my missus is hassling me already about having 3 - 2 seater cars, I think I would be shot if I made it a 4th - 2 seater.

The other option is to cut a LWB into a SWB and put on a GQ SWB chassis, that's if we can't import a GU SWB.

No probs I will sell you my gu wagon for 40K & you can cut it up if you want. Hey its got lockers & stuff.

Apparently there are 2 in South Aust, GU cut down LWB to Shortys...

No it's not breeding season Paulo!

If I was getting clucky we would be buying a wagon not a shorty, but I think we will end up with a wagon, but not for the baby factor! Just because they will be easier to find...
