GQ SWB Bottom Door Hinge Replacement

Post by blkmav »

I need to replace the bottom door hinge on both front doors as they are rooted. Has anybody done this before?

Looks like you need to pull the front guard off to get at the hinge. That would make it a !@#$ of a job.

gq swb bottom door hinge replacement

Remove plastic inner guards replace one hinge at a time. Shouldn't have to remove guard unless there is a problem.

I changed them on my shorty 2 months ago and I had to take the guards off.

So nice not hearing the crack everytime I open the door

Just did mine on swb MQ. They are the same as gq. All I did was remove the two bolts at bottom of guard and the two bolts you can see holding the outer guard on to the inner when the door is open. Pull the guard gently away from inner and wedge it there with a bit of wood or a screwdriver. This gives enough room to change both top & bottom hinges. Bottom only should be a piece of piss. I removed my door completely, swapped both hinges and adjusted the door in less than an hour, only got to drink 2 beers whille doing it. Disappointing, thought it'd be a 4-6 stubby job. Oh well, there is always next time.

Done mine.

Had panel beater friend handy, so he helped with lining everything up : ).

Take your time with it dude, look at it as though you are restoring it or something... :D . Get some anti rust crap and take the front gaurds off - makes life easier. Spray in on and around where the front gaurds where.

The prick will be the door itself making sure it shuts and then that everything clears..

Have patience.............
