98 Vitara 2dr Soft Top
I have made snorkels, all out of exhaust tube and by cutting sections to make lobsterback bends, and using doughnuts. (Made one for a Hummer with 4.5" exhaust tube too) They are a heap of work to get to look "right"
Most home made type snorkels tend to look pretty agricultural next to an off the shelf item.
I have only really done it when there is no commercially available snorkel on the market.
There is at least one snorkel available for the vitara. I would spend the dollars and go with that. I know that they don't always work with all engine types, but this is only the underbonnet stuff that can be as ugly as you like without any issue.

Not stirring the pot, but if you bought the exhaust stuff yourself, ducting, hose clamps, ram pod, a doughnut or a coupel of prefabbed mandrel bends to get it to look nice etc, it will cost you more than you think, especially if you then got it powdercoated.
Sure, you can make one for 50c out of PVC plumbing stuff, but they don't tend to look very elegant.
Have a think about resale too. A home made snorkel on a 98 model car will reduce its value more than a commercial model (although that will devalue the car too, especially a Vit. - not sure if this is important though.)

yep i agree bud....
he stated he wanted to do it himself and we dont know his skills.
i was merely making a suggestion and i got one made for bout 50 bucks plus ram head think bout 30-40 then powdercoated for like 10-20.
looks schmick but maybe not what he was after...
plus i am lazy so someone else makin it was very appealing

a safari snork is about $350 .. inlcudes the underbonnet plumbing etc, looks good and is designed to fit your car properly and will last for many many years ..

3 inch would suit the ram head as these are easier to get. we tried to get one in 2 1/2" and impossible at the time. we ended up 2 1/2" tube with a flared bit welded at top to fit the head. plumbing on a sierra was easy just joined it to the original bits inside. on a vit not sure

Here's a pic of the one Steve made on the Hummer, one that i did for my hilux using rubber bends and the one on my sierra that LJEXTREME made out of stainless bends.
