Yes my transfer may have failed because of the 2 thrust washers missing as it makes the most sence. As the cross shaft did not break it just striped all the teeth of the gears in the centre diff which threw bits through everywhere else. We only pulled a couple of front digs on the weekend all up 1 being b4 the comp to make sure the air handbrake was holding properly as we had a bit of problems sorting it out the week prior
We did about 2/3 on wet rock during a few stages as i beleived on wet rocks it wouldnt put as much stress on the centre diff as dry rock/ ground.
( now there i could be wrong) and one on sunday morning (well half one ) to make sure everything was allright after the brake the day B4 Yes the couple on the coarse may have been unnecasary but hay shoot me it was our first full fledged comp and well i was under the opinion that we use ly230s for that reason (poor mans atlas) And we had fun fuging around getting used to the buggie and trying a few left feild ideas( not all worked obviously)
My beleif is it was going to happen some time and asmuch it being a kick to the nuts right now its better than at bathurst when we will have about 4 weeks to fix it before the next round. And hay you have to expect some dramas on something you did not build yourself. And also for bathurst i will have a completetly rebuilt transfer that i hope will not give me any dramas for a little while at least. I am still learning a hell of a lot at the moment and every event driving or not( judges comp and watching included) im still continually changing my habbits good and bad to suit what i have and to get better. I will have to learn to drive better with outfront digs as when my new set of claws go on ill have a lot more traction and will put a lot more stress on things like centre diffs.
To put it all in prospective " shit happens for a variety of reasons" and yes it happened to me but on the good side i will have a hopefully sorted buggie at bathurst and continue to try better. We are even going to pass on the superior challenge we were thinking about as WEROCK is our main goal and all efforts will be put towards it.
On a plus side if this did not happen i still wouldnt have a clue as to how
the lt230 works and come up with a few ideas on changing my buggie for the better mmmm a quick disconnect transfer case if they are as week as some say
Tony thanks for your effort to try sorce me another LT230 i do appreciate it but wouldnt you know it when shit goes bad something good can come of it and i have acquired 2 running units complete for pretty much nothing except a swap of some parts. and will be thinking of carrying one as a spare.Overkill i know but hay if we can swap it out over night at a comp then we are still in with a chance "never say die" At PUOSU alot of the crap we took we thought was overkill but we seemed to use allmost everthing we took (or someone else borrowed it) So we will still take a car full of crap untill im satisfied that my rig is a little more reliable
Anyway rant over and hopefully this subject.
Cheers Jamie H ( or should i sign as "Team shit happens")
Oh and the one peice cross shaft did survive pretty well but for good clearances weve opted to put a new one in it. A macnamarra unit for sure cause holly crap there tuff
