I am about to undertake this conversion using a dellows kit which i am yet to purchase.
Is there anything i am going to have traouble or ahould know to make it easier with or is it fairly straight foward?

Hey doddzee, I am half way through a similar conversion with a vs motor into a gu using the dellow. Had some trouble with clearence to the fire wall
Dellow said it was a snug fit.......no sh#t. Had to move the box forward about an inch. Unless you put a 2" body lift on and raise the gbox and engine accordingly you will prob. have to relocate the alternator. Also the aircon as the diff pumpkin will smash it to bits, on suspension compression. Will also have to fabricate a bellhousing cover to stop the ingress of muck, but I think dellow are onto this one at the moment, so may be able to buy it in a month or 2. But all said and done....once in looks f*#kin awsome. Not that difficult to do but a little time consuming if doing it yourself. If your minted...pay for someone else to do it.
Post up some picks once you srart.

i spoke to a guy today about it because i'm also considering the same conversion...... he said with the one his mate did (VP Commonwhore 5.0 litre into a GQ), and he used the marks kit, they had the conversion done in 2 days, plus 3 nights tidying shit up, and it was running sweet as...... i'm going to try to raise the funds for a GENIII 5.7

I would have liked the 5.7 aswell but i couldnd quite justify the extra 5-6000 it was going to cost for the motori'm going to try to raise the funds for a GENIII 5.7
A speed camera would have prevented that!

IMHO Not the sort of power you would want for rock crawling or normal 4 wheeling, unless it is going to be an everyday drive on the black stuff.
I am not aware of what the other Chev V8's perform like, especially for low down torque. Maybe a stroked 5 litre VT (355) would be better, cheaper???? Anyway you go it is going to sound better

I just finished my GQ Holden 5L conversion, bloody awesome. I used the Marks 4wd adaptors, including the weld in engine mounts and the power steering pump adaptors.
The bellhousing was sweet, the P/S was fair and the engine mounts where slightly out. I own a mechanic shop so it wasnt to bad. Still a lot of mucking around.
For the exhaust i used commodore extractors down to the first collector then custom made them from there on.
Mine was a big job as i started with a RX 2.8TD model. Had to change almost the entire drive train.
I hand build an engine and stoked it to 5.7. Installed a small cam ans slightly higher compression, all up its good for aound 190kW @wheels. Makes for an awesom ride.
Sure beats the hell out of the 2.8 deisel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you have to modify the sump at all? it looks as though it may interfeer with the diff.
I think i will have to get some block huggers as i will be running a pto winch and the shaft looks as though it will be right in the way.
I was goin to use a dellows kit as 3 out of 4 of there kits that i know of that have been used in NZ have all needed machining as the faces where not centred. Marks were not helpfull at all when we went back to them either. I have just found a NZ supplier for the marks kit so i will have a chat to them and see what they could do if the same problem occours.

Yep no worries, i will get some pics accross to you in the next day or two.
You will need to use a HQ style rear bowl sump to clear the diff and same syle oil pick-up.
As far as your exhaust manifolds go you should try the factory cast header as they have stacks more clearence than an extractor. Although block huggers do work well.

Doddzee, Yuo will have to use a reverse bowl sump.
HQ had this type, bolts straight on. Will have to source another
dipstick, and oil pick-up also. High energy also does this type with an extra litre or two for more oil capacity.
Zuk 16v... what type of cam (what operating range) for those dyno figures.
Also where did you squeeze the air-con into.

V8 conversion
The cam is a COME racing version p/n462. operating range between 2000-6200rpm, pulls very hard and accelerates very snappy through the mid range. Slight lope at idle. Sounds wicked cruising down the steet! Im also running an after market ECU and soon installing LPG.
The air con is in its standard holden posi, remade the a/c lines. Clearence is good due to 3inch spring lift. Just had to relocate the front brake hose bracket lower on the diff centre. Marks 4wd also reccomend a bump stop extention on the drivers side. Mine didnt need it.

with the power steer did you get the bracket off marks did it allow you to use the holden power steer or the nissan power steer at the moment the holden power steer is very very close to the steer box and hits some times

Forestdude, I removed the 4.63 and went to 3.9 they give me 2500rpm at 110klm/h with 33 MTR's.
Bartso, I used the Marks p/s adaptor, it uses the original 4.2petrol p/s pump and lowers the alternator, this in turn puts the alternator pretty close the passenger side rail, something to consider before you weld the new engine mounts into place, a good idea would be to mount all the accesories up to the engine when working out the engine alignment to the rails. I have just over 20mm clearence of the alternator to chassis rail. This is plenty as the engine torqes up on that side.

Yes no problems, just finished the custom fan shroud and sent it away to be painted, i'll wait till i have that bolted on, tonight all going well and i'll get busy with the digi cam for ya's.
I was looking under mine last night, infact thats where ive spent most nights for the past month and a half and i was thinking that PTO winch you have may be more problems than its worth with exhaust clearence etc, as you have very limited room on the other side with your front tail shaft, plus you also have to clear your clutch slave cylinder on the pass side. Repco are doing elec 9000lb winches for under $700.00 now!!
