Hilux gearbox replacment Q'S

Post by LUXon37s »

Done a gearbox in my '97 hilux on the weekend and was wanting to know
is there a stronger replacment out there

Currently running 3.0d turbo and 37'' tyres but with the standard g52 box

Keeping in mind i have a chain drive transfer what would be the best box to get put in with minimal fuss

Any comments would help

R151 from a turbo surf...

Not too sure if it would be a definate bolt on job, may require a bit of modification, dumbdunce would be the man with the answer, but it will definanately be strong enough.. somewhere around 100% stronger than the g52
Cheers,
Dan.

Use the R series and use this ADAPTER from Marks to bolt it to your G52 bellhousing.

The choice of which one depends on what 1st gear you want etc as the other gears are close to the same.

The R150 from V6 4Runners/Surfs has a 3.83 1st.

The R151 from Surfs have a 4.31 1st.

You can fit the entire gears from a Dyna box into the R housings only and use the R selector shafts etc and get a 5.31 1st.

Probably also easiest to get a complete R trans and chain transfer from either a Surf or 4Runner as you will need a different splined transfer coupler to use your transfer. If you don't have ADD then you need to get the early RV6 4Runner setup, which is non ADD. All Surfs are ADD along with SR5 4Runners.
