BJ 42 & BJ 73 transfer angles

Post by midi73 »

The gearbox/ transfercase is rattly in my bj 73 & I have a bj42 gearbox/ transfer case sitting on the floor which I want to replace it with. they look the same except for the top plate where the gear stick goes in, these look like they can be swaped so no problem.
The problem is that I have herd mention that the transfercase is rotated around on the 70 series about 4 degrees lower than the 42 series. they say it is to make the drive shafts flatter. Is this true? If it is does it matter ? can the 42 be put into the 73.
Cheers.

I think the rotation is in the bellhousing and in the transfer rubber mount, so if the BJ42 bell and the mount are kept, you should be fine.

Thankyou for your reply.
If it is in the bell housing wouldnt that mean that if I put my BJ73 one on it will make it right for my 70 series.
Cheers.
