my charge is reading just over 12v when running so obviously my alternater is stuffed! would anyone know what actualy goes in them? would it be a simple fix or will i have to get a reco one? if so does anyone know of a good place in s/w sydney to get one at a resonable price or even a second hand one to get me outa the shite? thanks in advance!

The problem could be as simple as needing a new set of brushes.

It's kind of up to you. If you pull the alternator out yourself and check it over you might get away with a $20 brush replacement - or you might end up needing a replacement alternator.

Or you can drive into an auto elec and regardless of the fix you're going to pay at least $120, and probably more.

It could even be dirty/weak connections from the alternator to the battery althought I doubt it.
