Glow plug light flashing

Post by TDiesel »

I have a diesel GQ with a flashing glow plug light. When the engine is cold, I turn the key to turn the glow plugs on which works fine and the light stays on for the duration of about three seconds depending how cold it is. I hear the relay switch off and the glow plug light goes out but then it starts flashing. The vehicle starts okay so the glow plugs are obvioulsy doing their job, however the glow plug light flashes until the engine has warmed up and then it goes out. Any clues as to what is wrong?

the glow plug module has it own temp sender in the motor (i think its in the lower termistat housing) test it with a multimeter as it may be faulty. some glow plug modules break down internally and just have to be thrown away.

Check the connections to the temp sensor (mounted next to the sensor that drives the gauge) Dirty/intermittent connections here can conribute to the fault you describe. Also check for wet/dirty connections to the glow plug timer unit itself.

Are you sure it is your glow plug light?

This will be the fuel water seperator and it needs draining from the bottom of you main fuel filter. Soon it will stay on. How long have you had the 4b and when did you last drain the filter?
