Back Door Hinges are Stuffed!

Post by HotAe92 »

Hey all,
for those of you with hardtops, have you found that your rear door hinges have shit themselves? My '98 coily rear door is REALLY rattly and squeaky and an absolute nightmare to drive with over corrugations. As far as i know, no excessive weight has been put on the door and the standard 26" spare has been carried on there at all times. It seems as if it is just normal wear-n-tear.

Could you please advise me what you have done/what i could do to possibly eradicate this problem. the best ive come up with is to fit bushes inbetween the hinges but i wanted to see what you guys think first.

Cheers
Jayden

Mine shat themselves from weight and rust.

u could try bushes or get some new hinges. dont think they are that expensive. u tried oiling them i guess.

Try suzukishop or premier suzuki for new ones.

mine are pretty rooted, i can move the door up and down and the shaft will move within the shaft. Im probably better off with new ones, but ill see what me and the old man can do in the mean time.

Try adjusting the door latch (the hook bit) ... That can help, sometimes :)
And keep an eye on any rust on the hinges too... Stop it before it takes over because this can cause the door to drop ...

PS. I have a set of door hinges I need to sell that are off a 1ltr - Not sure if they are the same though

Weld the door shut, or make it into a drop tailgate....like a styleside hilux.

Or you can make a rear tube bar with a swing-away rear tyre carrier.....

Having owned 3 sierras myself, 2 of which have attempted to jetesen the rear tailgate by breaking free from the paper thin sierra steel where the hinges are. On my current one I welded the hinge up. Very ugly. On my other zook, I took the door off and made a new tailgate ( a fixed one) and mounted some LED's in it.

Have a look at a drop tailgate on a hilux or similar. It is surprisingly easy to do.

gutless you got picks of the tailgate you made? how does it marry up to the other 'section' of rear door? or did you cut the back? i like the idea of a rear tailgate for work and carrying boxes etc.. just cant think of how to cut my door up and still have it latching..

i think the setup like top half folding up (like a vit) and bottom drop down tailgate style.. anyone else done this? got pics?
(yes i have searched :D)
