Got a 1HZ in my 75. Has a Turbo with Water cooled intercooler. I am pretty happy with the power but have read about Boost Compensators. Anybody got any info on them? Are they worth it? Where can yu get them and how much??
75 series ute. 8 inch lift, Drop shackles, Shock hoops, ladder bar, Ubolt flip, 3 inch wheel spacers, intercooled turbo, winch, twin detroits, 35" Mtr's, etc, etc.

Don't know about the 75 but on a Lux they are fairly expensive because you have to modify the fuel pump, which you might aswell get rebuilt while your at it; goodbye a few grand
Heaps of people run without them just means you run a little rich on low revs; better too be rich down low than lean up high. Thats all it does; adjust your mixture dependant upon your vacuum (revs) you are making.

He also got a bit of an increase in top end power, but a decrease in lower end power. But less smoke on take off.
I wonder if its true what they said about overfueling is what kills the 1hz engine, seeing as its only at low revs it probably doesn't hurt too much anyways. Wouldn't it provide more cylinder lubrication?? Although this could make your oil go black a little sooner, wouldnt it?

Hi all...I got suckered into getting a boost compesater fitted to my Cruiser by Westend.When i picked up my vehicle it went like a rocket litterally,it would wheel spin in 3rd gear in the dry tar.I thought unreal,this is the best money spent ever..Anyway,after a month or so i went on one of my regualr trips up the mountains,i was pulling up these monsterous hills in 4th and 5th gear,before the turbo it was all 2nd gear all the way up with the odd 3rd gear.Half way up the hill me and my mate were bragging how good my vehicle pulled up this mountain range,the we noticed the temp guage was almost hitting the red,i backed off imeadiately and got the temp down and kind of nursed my vehicle all the way up.
A few days later i took my vehicle to my local MTQ turbo gurus and got them to check the Exhause Gas Tempratures,they said they were to high.I said set them where they should be.Half hour later they were set back where they should be and my vehicle went exactly the way it went before the boost aneroid thingy majig was fitted...All in all it was a wast of money and i was conned....But i think if your going to squeeze huge amounts of power out of your diesel engine then i think they would be the go...If your just going to add a turbo,exhaust and maybee an intercooler.Dont waste your hard earned cash on boost compensator or what ever they call them....Just my experience.I think they are more of a pollution device more than anything else.

I reckon when they installed your compensator, they upped your fuel to make you believe you got something more for your money. I realise the compensator is there only to help overfueling at low revs and underfueling at high revs. Not to give an increase in power. But it should give a minimal increase at high revs as it gives the engine that little more fuel it needs up high. Just like in the mag, when the dyno gave a readout of about 10% more power up high in the range on the troopy. But most importantly it stopped the overfueling down low and the smoking on take off. Fuel economy only had a minor change.
But overall I see what you are saying, yeah it does seem like a anti pollution device and a lot of money for no major gains.
