im gonnna make a snorkel whats your thoughts on using some heavey pvc 1000mmlong 3mm thick, 50 to 75mm round cost around 9-12 bucks from bunnings?
like the tubes telstra use under ground i supose for the lines

?>??

instead of useing steel thats all

I've seen it done heaps of times

Downsides would be the weakness of the pipe if it encountered trees/rocks etc

But the upside is that the pipe is extremely cheap to buy and easy to replace!

Might be handy to keep a spare set of pipes and some pvc cement in your toolbox!

ah wells if it breaks then stiff , i think it would work out a hell lot cheaper then $275 might look into it some more i thing

looks a bit ugly too. But thats the plan with mine when i get around to it.
But remeber with a proper snorkel it can add value to car and people pay around $200 for a s/h one

why not spend a few extra dollars and use stainless pipe with rubber bends, looks heaps better than PVC, but thats just me,

just made an alloy / rubber bend snorkel, $140 for parts and 3hrs fitting and runaround chasin the stuff. unless you have a plumber mate it'll cost you nearly as much for the parts from a plumbing supplies joint

alright... (sorry to bring up an old thread..) but i said i would get pics when i had done mine... it got delayed a bit because i got lazy... but lastnight and today i put it on... had a few problems with the holes... nothign the grinder gouldnt fix, and a pair of pliers to bend the rest.. also a hammer... it helped alot...

so pics... (none of me actually putting it together sorry)

used about 1.5m of pvc, two 90* bends, three 45* bends, a drain cap, some channel alloy (like for a sliding door or something) two 100mm hose clamps. and some TEK screws...

hardest part was cutting the guard... drilled alot, smashed that out... then got the grinder in there and made it bigger... then siliconed up the gaps...

if your a boiler maker why dont you buy some mandle bends and some 3 inch pipe and make one, cost me less than 100 bucks incl the pod. looks heaps better than pvc pipe

i did take the joke... i foun it funny... i only put that because i couldnt think of anything else (hot night, few tins ect ect...) didnt mean for it to sound so harsh.... hence the

I made one last weekend using 100x50mm rectangle down pipe. Looks ok, but wasnt as cheap as the round stuff. it sits 40mm closer to the body which isnt much i know but 90mm wouldnt last the way i drive. As it was last weekend it rubbed the side of cutout. Ill post some pics when its all done inside the engine bay

Fella if you are boiler maker you are in a way better position to make somthing shmick yourself than most of us.
Make it your little project after work or during.......
I too dont have heaps of dough but if I make shit I like it to look good you should too, you obviously have the skills and if dudes like the look of it you may have little sideline cashy Job.
If you make it out of Plumbing stuff it will look like what it is.
When i get the time im gonna make a snorkel out of what ever then get a pattern made so I can get them ally cast I will be sellin them for less than plastic ones anyway.

There are so many people on this damn site that love to preach, let the guy make a snorkel, how and when he wants to.
He drives an old brown MQ patrol, so automotive looks probably don't mean a great deal to him, he built a good cheap snokel that will have the same effects as a profesional expensive one, and if he lays it over and crushes the pvc, who gives s h i t, he will outlay the few dollars it cost to whip up another one. Constructive criticism is one thing, but I swear half you guys think you are writing a friggen bible.

i drive a GQ so looks have to matter a bit

99% of what i build im fussy most time to get it right and looking good first time round

i prefer steel because of strength i'll probly have a play around with 3inch pipe

and im an apprentice boiler maker nearing on 2nd year and my names matthew

thats what he got. There is no "Bilble" and I dont have a problem with stuff made of plumbing glue and pipecleaners. Now if you dont mind im busy watering my rubber plants so that i can make my own simexes.

Mathew, I'm a boilermaker (for a looooooong time) as well, if you need any mandrel bends in steel there's a place around the corner from work (Carrum Downs, Melbourne) that sells them in all sizes.

i rang up a place today 3inch tube 2.5m at 60 bucks

thought it was alright from an exhsaust joint in dandy
i will need a few bends yes

when it comes to farseting to the pillar what most of you use?

i made mine out of some drain pipe that was about $2 for 5m and was flexable looked a bit like the bigballs one for the zook's was for a dihatsu scat so dont know if it would look any good on a patrol only prob is i got no pic's

only problem iv had with it is i dropped the top yesterday while cleaning my car... and it put a small crack in the vent... so i put som more paint on it and now its fine... possibly some sillicone coming soon.

went for a drive in mud/water the other day, and it seemed to work fine didnt end up with mud/water in the air filter again. so i like it.

what does everyone do when they wash there cars to sop water getting into the top? put a bag and a rubber band over the top? i didnt have one so i had to jam m jumper in there... worked tho.
