Modifying the sump on a 3L for Highsteer??
My highsteer is all fitted but i had to get my bump stops extended by a few inches to stop the tierod hitting the sump. Off road it bottoms out too much :(
What i want to know before I go to the trouble of removing the sump to get it modified is:
1. Is there anything internal above the front of the sump that will stop me from raising the level an inch or two?
2. Is there anything I have to be carefull of when designing it?
3. Does the sump from another motor bolt up (like a 2L, 2LTE?) that doesnt come down as low in the front section?

There is an oil pick up pipe from the front of the engine to the lowest point of the sump. From memory i'm not sure how low it is but i suspect it is reasonably close to the block so therefore may not hinder what you want to do.
However the sump is that shape so it can hold enough oil to keep the engine feed at higher revs and on slopes. Make sure you increase the capacity in another area to keep at least the original oil capacity.
Pretty sure L, 2L and 3L sumps are interchangable, even the 2wd and hiace van ones. doubt any of the others would do want you want them to though.
Good luck.

I have already got 2" dropped hangers and extended shackles. So it looks like modifying the sump is the only option i have. I just wanted to know if there is anything internal at the front of the sump that would stop me from gaining the 2" i want from the front and I will make up the volume in the rear of the sump.
Im am running a standard 2" lifted spring without relocated locator pin, but probably dropped hanger and relocated shackle mounts are giving me the clearance, but if you have moved your axle forward you should still have more clearance than me and after closely looking at the pic it looks that you a running a dropped pitman anyway.
