torsion bar lift how to

torsion bar lift how to
gday everyone out there i own an 87 trooper, and b stuffed if i know how to get the front to the point of being even with the back. the back i have a 3 inch shackle lift and planning a spring over should lift it to 17 inchs including the body lift. any1 out there who has or would know anything about lifting the front that much it would b much appreciated on any info.
The most you will get out of your front via winding your torion bars is 2in while still retaining any decent amount of downward wheel travel. You can get a Calmini kit that replaces the upper control arms that will give you 3in. I don't think you would get much more than that.
IMHO you would need a SAS to get the front end level with 17in of lift.
How are you getting 17in lift anyway?
3in shackle (is that 3in longer or 3 inch higher overall?)
4in from SPOA
Body lift (how much?)
Lifted springs???
What size tyres do you intend on running?

yeah i was thinkin last nite about it its more like, 3" body lift. 3" shackle lift, 6" from the spring over,to wat i got standard which is 5" from the rear tyre, so i just add all the lift together as u could probaly tell im only new to the 4x4 scene, runnin 31s at this point in time, and ive wound the torsion bar up
Solid Axle Swap means to remove your current IFS (Independent Front Suspension) and put a solid axle in there from a Hilux or something that had a solid front axle as standard.Guzzi wrote:IMHO-in my humble opinion
SAS - solid axle swap
Are you going to continue running 31s after the lift? As all that lift for 31in tyres is a bit of overkill. It would look pretty funny.
Also when you calculate your overall lift the general method is to state the added height over standard height. So 3in body lift, 3in shackle lift and 6in spring over is 12in over standard. You will get some lift from your bigger tyres (31in compared to 29in = 1in lift) but that is not normally referred to as lift.
I just measured my axle tube diameter and the depth of my spring pack and that is 130mm or just over 5in. That is what your spring over lift will be unless your measurement differs from mine (Holden Rodeo (ute) R7 with Jackaroo 5 leaf packs).
Something else you should consider is that 3in shackle lift means approx 6in over standard shackle lengths. That is going to give you a vertical if not inverted shackle. That means your wheel travel will suck and your driveline angle will need some serious correction. There are other problems with longer shackles due to flexing etc. Longer shackles really need longer springs to combat the shackle angle but of course that brings other problems and also negates the lift you are chasing.
Also body lift is generally used so you can run bigger tyres without cutting your guards. 31s on a Jackaroo Trooper doesn't need 3in lift. I run 31s on my Rodeo with a sagged 2in lift and 40mm (inches ???) body lift. Although they were okay without the bodylift but scrubbed badly on the rear.
Also what country are you in? All this is illegal in Australia but since you own a Trooper I guess you're not from these parts
