I welded up a frame from SHS that fits in between the wheel arches and bolts straight onto the chassis using grade 8 hi-tensile bolts. The seatbelts attach to the roll bar. Seat sits level with wheel arches and frame doubles as a storage area. Works great and took less than a weekend to fab. I can probably get pics if you want them.

My poor FJ40 was recently sent to the wrecking yard in the sky, and I purchased an 80 series to replace it. I never quite got around to putting a rear seat into the 40 or working out what kind of rear seat I wanted to put in. Looking at the 80 series 3rd row (dickie) seats they would probably be a good bet.

You would need to get a set with the mounting rails which are permanently mounted on the wheel arch, and the floor clip on mounts.

The seat is a fold away split seat that can easily fold fully out of the way when not in use, fold up one side for one seat and more storage, or be removed altogether. Complete removal takes about a minute.

There is always someone selling these cheap. Have a look on eBay, they normally go for between $50 and $100.
