I have a pair of 5.12 R&Ps but will be running 3.909s for the time being. I'm only running a 31" tyre and want the revs to be sane at highway speeds.

I was running the series 3 and the 5.12:1's with 33's and detroit's and was going through cv's like they going out of style.
Until i machined up a pair of sleeves and heat shrunk them to the cv's.
Tryed hard and did'nt break em, But they are gone now and now have hilux diffs with air lockers and 4.8:1 ratio's.
It's a nice ratio, can rock crawl in 1st and 2nd and still have heaps of control.

Yeah next question.
Na just kidding,It's not to bad once you get used to the revs and only being able to do 70 -80.At the moment it's got a awesom vibration coming from the intermediate tailshaft because of a small bend. But thats minor detalis. If i wanna go any playin thats a fair distance away i normally tralier it there, that way i can drive a little harder knowing that i can always get home,And it also scares the sh*t out of my navi.
