15" rims on '05 GU4 wagon

Post by jimsaq »

I tried a mate's 15" sunraysia rim+tyre on my GU this arv and it fitted fine front and back - the gap between the rim and the brake caliper was from about 6mm min to 8mm or so max. We bolted the rim up and turned the wheel a few times to check it.

My question is, is the gap described above enough, or is there a larger minimum required or recommended? Any heating issues due to reduced airspace? (just guessing wildly)

thanks,
jason

ta

mine actually came with silly 17's :(
I'd probably only be running the 15's off-road anyway, and put the 17's back on during the week

cheers

That's interesting .. a mate tried 15's on his 2003 model and they wouldn't fit on the rear? Wonder what the difference is? Were your 15's Nissan or Toyota offset?

yeah I read the same thing too, in the bible threads

further to this, my mate checked the gap bgetween the rim and brake on his GQ where we got rim off in the first place and it has about the same gap as my GQ. mine's a 3.0 TD, I guess they're too gutless to warrant bigger brakes :)

Must depend on state - it is legal to go to down in rim size in QLD. All that matters is the overall increase/decrease including tyre.

So, if going from 17 down to 15, all you need is the correct profile tyre and you're OK.

The rim diameter may be varied from the standard size
but the overall diameter of the tyre must not vary by
more than +15mm or -26mm.
(from QLD transport)
