18V dewalt cordless drill. Great for boring 50mm holes into hard jetties for rod holders. My most used tool anywhere.

My brain working out how to do shit so i dont have to spend money letting other people do second rate jobs at huge prices.

How much are plasma cutters for home use not industrial and were do you get them?

couple of purchases have come in very handy!! 2.5hp air compressor, a cheap ass 9" grinder i got off ebay that i can't kill.... and an old bosch 5" grinder.... very handy to have!

Was recently the TIG welder, now the latest toy is a paslode gas finishing gun, pricey, but once i used it a bit i'd be stuffed if i'll use a hammer again... not exactly great for the fourby tho...
Probably most useful tool tho is a small shifter or vise grip pliers, can do a lot and keep em in the glovebox.

Compressor.....Use it for the rattle gun, the ratchet, air up tyres on junk which hasn't moved in a while, Air drill, air hammer, spray painting junk....and most widely used is the blow gun..... I love my compressor....

Next favourate - ratchetting spanners - gawd why didn't I get a full set of these 10 years ago.....

ditto - i have never paid labour for any fab work, never will. never paid for a car service, never will.

plasma cutters cost anywhere from $1000 upwards

i bought a uniplas 401 which easily cuts 8-10mm. it was around 2k from memory. and stocked by trade tools, it is and old school unit and is heavy and will last a lifetime. the boc sold units are prob better at over 2k but imo will not last as long being switch mode etc., same for a few of the others. i needed to upgrade the household breaker to 32 amp for the plasma only and the compressor runs off the other. $180 for the power rcdd etc

look ast spares / availability as they use contact tips, ceramic covers, and copper electrodes at $5 - 10 a piece and i have used 1 of each since i have had it guessing 5mths pretty frequent use

I agree Kingy, a Lathe is definitely one of the most useful bits of equipment. Never owned one myself, but had full use of my Neighbour's lathe in OZ - made in 1902 and about 10 feet long (god knows what it was powered by back then - world's biggest hamster wheel???). Needles to say the tolerances were a bit "loose".

Over here at work I have a small lathe to use, but it isn't quite the same. They don't let me play on the big CNC ones.

2nd on the list would have to be a bloody huge bench vice - also doubles as a press when needed.

In my shed I would say the 5" grinder with 1mm blade,then the uni belt on the bench grinder followed by the mig then the industrial drill press.most resent is a 17cpm compressor and air tool kit.
I would really like a pan-hard and Guillotine.

The thinks that get the most working out in my shed are
1- 4" grinders
2- Migs
3- Brobo saw
NOW ABLE TOO SAY WHAT I WANT WITHOUT FEAR OF LOOSING SALES.

At work the 2 3 phase migs get worked from morning to night but I must say that my enerpac bender is my best tool purchase. But then again text screws and zip ties if you call them tools win my vote. :D
