It's great reading everyone else's stories cos even though your there you don't get to see many other people.
It sounds like Coops has to be in for the team spirit award. He helped out a few people. (i heard ya diff go bundy!)
Must thank everyone out there to. Didn't have any trouble from any other competitors and whilst i let heaps of people get past when they caught me, those i did catch let me go through most of the time.

Stage 4 was glad they deleted 4.05 as we just wanted to get home.
Overall event was pretty good but have thought previous years have been better.
Around 4 hour drive home thinking never going to do this again. Funny how 12 months makes you forget how you feel after the event and went straight to bed untill 8am this morning.

We had Smithie pull up in front of us and come asking for the answer to 'AHD' thinking it was a Paj Question and asked for our car manual. We thought it must have been a paj thing to. But a worked it out to be 'Australian Hieght Datum'.

Oh and even though I said we did really bad. Been Having a think and I dont think we did as bad as we think (just as long as we beat Frank, we may get something).
But we didnt get many SCP's so theres lots of points lost there. And who was the bugger with the Rattle gun. We thought we where good with a 5min time.
This was my 2nd year. And there was lots of times when I just wanted to go home. Thought last year was more fun (if you would call it that). And though we where all buggered. As sparky said, we will have forgotten by next year and will be back again.

Logistically its not possible but I'd love to go back and have a look at the area around stage 3 & 4 in the daylight. Everyone seems to talk about the deep creek trails....... Let me tell you of a night they were wet and wild, thankfully we couldnt see too much cause we slid down a few of those steep sections with our heart in our mouths.

they are fun in the dry - I drove the section (3) the day before and was NOT looking forward to assisting with recoveries on the track if it rained
Luckily I had an excuse and got out of it ---- A Pootrol totalled me on the way into Scrutineering . (yeah the wrecked paj that lots of you passed)Everyone was OK and cars can be replaced.
Reading everyones accounts is a blast - but Saturday evening I was safe at home having a few cold ones in the dry so not sure if i would swap that.

I gotta admit Kris & I were pretty spooked after that and it took me until stage 3 to really push the Jabber.

RedMav and I had a great time. I'm not sure how we will finish, but I don't think we'll be anywhere near the winning circle. We were more frustrated that we weren't all that organised. We had a mixed bag of success and failure in each section. The selection of tracks were great and lots of tricky navigation.
My Disco II probably had the smallest tyres in the event and we felt every single pot hole on Army tk, but we drove everything including Deep Ck tracks in Section 4 and down Old Bridle in Section 2. We even drove down the wrong side of Trig tk because the laptop stopped working and we weren't all that accurate with our triangulation from the dam tower.
Overall it was good event and we hope to be back next year in a bigger car.

The guys with the rattle guns weren't necessarily the fastest. think i got about 7-8 mins for mine, but i was made to jack the car up on uneven ground and the jack slipped and the car nearly fell offOnPatrol wrote:5 min for that activity wasn't bad. I didnt read the instructions properly, took shovel holder and only had one stud to go before getting SPARE wheel off back door Greg was givin me a strange look, then the marshall chipped in with you sure you want to do that?? So I spose over the 10 min mark not so bad for naerly two wheels eh.

WE thought it might be remove wheel thing. We where even thinking of removing the 3 of the wheel nuts. Just didnt know which wheel it would be.
MMM I think we had the smallest wheels. And they where worn AT's not like your fresh lookiing AT's. It good's for confidence when Matt and Juzza say you guys (as in us) probably want get up a track. Well we proved them wrong. Only had one or to spots where we needed a section go. One was the creek crossing on Gladstone track. We had some serious air on this one. Lucky Rob has had lots of driving of the paj, or we would have been in trouble (bullbar wasnt bolted on properly so couldnt use the winch).

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
Well were do we start, Stewy my navi pulled out four days prior to the event due to unforeseen work commitments. Which sent me into a panic. My other mate Kim from Castlemain was meant to be coming just for the ride and wasn’t confident navigating. But after having a bit of a chat he actually confessed to buying and reading Robert Pepper’s book which was more than Stewy and I had ever done. So Kim got to sit in Stewy’s place and another close friend, Rob was able to come along for the ride. We rocked up on Friday got through scrutinaring and set up camp up at Merringtons, then rewired some driving lights on the Bushpig that refused to work with the help of half the camp
Saturday morning we were all up by 6.30a.m. just waiting to start, by 9.35a.m we had our notes and Kim started plotting & I started stressing just hearing each individual truck take off up that big hill out of Merrington’s and you stuck back down there waiting for your navi to finish plotting is extremely frustrating. Lucky Kim is far bigger than me and threatened to thump me if I hassled him anymore, so I shut up and bit my tongue.
We drove around for quite a while before we got to our first question but once there everybody in the car breathed a sigh of relief. Rob started to look green in the back as he was suffering a mild case of car sickness but he battled on. We almost drove into the secret check point the wrong way but realized our mistake just in time and doubled back to see the cutest window washers with the longest legs in the history of window washers. Also I can’t forget the beautiful ladies cooking the sausages for the competitors. Kim and I completed our tyre changing task in just over 5 min and on we went with our confidence high. We arrived out our first check point 27min late but hey stuff happens.
Headed out on the next section with storm warnings, at one point we missed a track and headed up the wrong track only to find an obscure question about “how far is Mars from our current position” we finally put two & two together and did a U turn and retraced our steps where we found the hidden entry to the track running along a small creek we had crossed. Again we all breathed a sigh of a relief once we found the genuine question and confirmed we were heading in the right direction. Kim kept complaining about a noise he could hear at the front left wheel eventually stop only to discover the whole wheel had rattled loose and destroyed the rim, thankfully we had already had some practise on how to change a tyre. We eventually completed all our tasks found the secret check point and got back in our allotted time. Buy this stage fatigue was starting to kick in and we were given ½ hour to complete a quiz which I think we did very poorly in.
After tea and several coffees & V’s we set off again on Robert Pepper’s stage at 10.15pm. I took on look at the notes and thought we were stuffed but I had forgotten Kim had actually read his book and slowly he nutted each on out. We became geographically challenged once and entered the secret check point the wrong way and missed two plots but hey at least we got there. We did our task lucky Rob was with us as he new all about first aid as he trains security staff and at that time in the morning none of our brains were working real well. We then headed onwards to the third check point. We arrived there with 15min to spare and tried to answer all the questions we had left till later. Rob had found a cure to his car sickness it was called sleep. While he sleeping he didn’t feel crook.
Started our last stage at 4.15a.m and was keen now to get back to camp and finish the event but once we got going we all picked up and got on with the job. We missed a turn half way through the stage and I saw a fellow competitor head up the main track and decided to follow them to the next checkpoint with Kim swearing at me to turn around and find the right track and sure enough when we arrived at the checkpoint I realized we were going to enter it from the wrong direction so I finally listened to Kim and we doubled back found the right track entered the checkpoint the right way and completed our task. Kim had to join two snatch straps together as he got out of the car he almost collapsed as he was that tired but he got through it in the allotted time and on we went. Because of my stuff up earlier on in this section we had to cut and run to get back in our allotted time so we missed two points but got back to camp just in time.
Overall we had a magnificent time and would do it again in a blink of an eye as would Kim and Rob possibly with a packet of quell tablets.
If we finish in the top fifty I reckon we have done all right. .

Where was this task. We made a mistake here also. And did a loop along another track. Was this off the NP where you where supposed to plot a point which worked out to be .7456458nm sth of Cherry tree Look out. Cos we stuffed up and went across the dam wall. And where going to drive along the Whallhalla Rd to the Aberfeldy Bridge. But found we had to do a U turn and took a short cut (instead of doing the full loop) just cant remember what the track name was but it was off Beardmore Tk (before you headed down the hill.
We did this as well. Cos we wernt sure if the Paj would drive the top end of DC2. So we took the main road.
