Timing belt slipping

Timing belt slipping
Hey all - a quick one... With my roza it is like it keeps loosing power and gets worse - you advance the timing, all better. Now I can't advance any further!
Could the timing belt be slipping, hence the continual loss? Does the Roza use a tensioner that could be @#$@ed? My belt is about 10K old.....
A friend came up with the idea.....

When I redid my timing belt... even if it was out 1 tooth the car would not run without stalling... Im not sure if it is the same for yours but mine was not even drivable when the belt was 1 tooth out of alignment.
Some of the Fez boys on here should give you more help.
I'd make sure the ignition system is up to spec also.. coz it sounds like that kind of problem.

Re: Timing belt slipping
Yes, they do have a tensioner for the timing belt. Its a must to atleast replace the bearing on those when relpacing the belt. Even better replace the lot!drewe wrote: Does the Roza use a tensioner that could be @#$@ed? My belt is about 10K old.........
Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.
i doubt the timing belt is sliping. trust me you would know if your timing belt had slipped (bent/snapped valves, lots of noise and then alot of nothing at all), and its rare if it did slip it would only jump one tooth. the hormonic balancer is more of a posibility, but i would look else where think of the basics and go from there.
spark, fuel & compresion. have you set the base idle corectly or are you just advancing the timing?

I am doing compression tomorrow (battery on charger tonight!) - It wouldn't drive almost at all before until I advanced the timing - stalling, on a flat road I couldn't get over 80 without revving the guts out of it - headwind you couldn't go over 80 - period!
WE will see..... I am going to do compression tomorrow and see what results lie ahead.....

the boys got a pointMudRoza wrote:Um how old is ur exhaust system?? if not sure, grab a hammer or whatever, find the Catalyctic Converters, give it a tap, if u hear something loose inside it, it's stuffed.. happened to mate's falcon.. lack of power but he got it replaced when he found out. just a thought.
Hmmmm. Sparkies ok. Compression Shot.
Rec compression - about 133Kpa
Min compression - 100Kpa
Max difference - 15Kpa per cylinder
Mine
Cylinder compression
1 100
2 100
3 75 (oh, darn)
4 55-60 (oh, double @#$@#$@#$#)
Bum. Add a bit of oil to 4 or 3 and it goes up to 100 (like the others are now) - so my rings\bores are shot and possibly a valve seat issue as well as pressure still didn't reach optimum!
And it still won't start :( (but now I am less than suprised....)

Ah, given up. Basically removed everything now, just need a crane to remove the engine and i will get a JAp import motor - problem is, no one has one - so am going to buy a %1500 camry to hold me over till I can make this thing purr again!
Then can use the old block for bits - The head on it was only shaved about 5 months ago, so should be in good nick
