Fuel guage/fuel consumption

I've just bought a 1993 RRC, 3.9V8, ZF auto.

I'm getting about 22l/100km out of it at the moment. Not real good, but better than when it had no vacuum advance and a 'stuck open' thermostat.
I've put a new 82deg thermostat in and replaced the dissy with a bosch scorcher which gives out a very healthy spark. Timing is about 5deg.

I think its still running rich. What to change next, the temp sensor?

Also, the fuel guage doesn't seem to correlate too well with the actual consumption. Its all over the place.

Also, this model has the filler right at the top of the guard and doesn't seem to want to fill the tank very easily. Is this normal for this model.

Is the 22l around town or highway. Around town its pretty normal.
I would replace the temp sensor or at least test it. try cleaning the contacts on the connector. They are only $30
Also clean the MAF by spraying no residue contact cleaner into the small hole, and let dry fully.
Dunno about the gauge, mine was fine with teh plastic tank. if you have along range it bounces around a bit. Its the fuel sloshing.
Never had a problem filling mine.
Check that the pressure relief hose next to the filler hose underneath is not kinked.

The guys at TR spares in Sydney told me that the float in the tank can tend to fill with fuel, which means it'll always under read.
Mine regularly under reads but seems too erratic to be the float filling up.
I bought a new one about 2 years ago, this one hasn't filled up yet, but I think that's mainly due to it still sitting in my glove box
There's not too much petrol in there.
