In the pic of my impeco converter ( ?) you can see a hole with an oil substance leaking out of ot. I only noticed it when playing round converting to straight LPG. It looks like that the oil substance has also entered to mixer, air intake, etc.
I really have no idea, Is this a good or bad thing?
Is it normal ?
Can the convertor br mounted laying on its back ?
Do ya reckon the substance is flammable?
Cheers

Your converter is upside down, and that goo is the heavy buildup from the lpg. Ideally the converter needs to be sitting upright or even lying flat - ie the primer button on top or at 90 degree's. What engine is it powering? it may be too small, its a model J ?
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
Yeah it has been running upright for years. Ie. hole half way up. The plan is to mount that side (shown in pic) on flat and run the primer button on top as you say.
Its a setup on a toyota 22r motor. I have put a fuel injection manifold on and am running straight lpg.
I figured it was just a drain hole and that some crap is cooming out could been normal.
Thanx, I feel better already

Hey there, like loanrangie said the goo is just a build up of crap from the gas. No not flammable.
Personaly I would pull the cover of your converter and clean the diaghram, do the same with your mixer (guessing it would be an impco 225) it can play a little with your gas adjustments.
If the motor is standard the J converter should be fine, but the impco L is a bit bigger and more readily available.
Hope that helps you out a little.

The moose is on the loose!
Not being picky but the odour ingredient in LPG is called ethyl mercaptan or ethanethiol.xenith wrote:goo is called efaleandplotum and is what is added to make lpg smell otherwise lonerangei is right

I don't like to go around picking on people's spelling but I thought someone might want to look it up, that's all.
I've no idea whether that is what the goop is, but if it is, note that it is toxic and can be absorbed through the skin.

This is not legal advice.
Goo is Propaleine. I am having allsorts of problems with domestic & commercial Lpg Regulators that i supply. Quality of Gas is the issue here & the crap loves to eat away at rubber components like o rings diaphragms etc. Unfortunately at the moment all gas suppliers are having drama's but Elgas seems to be having the least probs so look for elgas tanks at servo's. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the only thing you can do is contact your State office of Mines & energy & bitch to them. You will find they will just finger point but if everyone complains they may do something.........................eventually.
P.s deodorant in LPG is called ethyl mercaptaine & also is in guiness book of records as most pungent stench known to man.
My 2 Bobs worth anyway

Ok cool. Great info guys. Yeah it sure does stink. Its a stocker all right.
Atm i have been only using BP gas and caltex if the misses eva filles it up.
Elgas eh, Ill definatly keep a look out. Its all back together so i ant gunna touch it for a while.
I out on an efi manifold and moved the mixer alot closer to the butterfly. Hopefully this will solve my cold start issues ( always had) and improve torque and responsivness a little. I just have some wiring to do tomorrow and then im going for a hoon
Cheers
