Patrol Timing

Post by Nevyn »

Hey peoples.

Can anyone tell me where my timing mark should be??

I know I should have a book for it but It's not the original engine and therefore unsure what to get, plus don't want to get two as I a tight ass.

Should it line up with the centre of the gauge thing that I don't what it's called? At the moment it sits just above the centre.

Oh yeah, '81 Patrol; 2.8 straight six petrol, converted to fuel injected (not sure as yet whether original head or how much is original but they did have a similar engine at the time but carby'ed) These changes shouldn't change timing and it's seems to run beaut but I am having problems fouling up spark plug every few months and this is one of the things suggested to check. ie timing slightly advanced, may seem fine but makes it burn out the plug.

Plus this is probably the best place to ask stupid Q's, the worst I can get is a smiley laughing at me.
I'll give it a go......

timing should be set to 0 or the middle mark othere wise yes leaving it to fast burns things out pritty fast :) and becomes very $$
but to do it right
get new points ,plugs, leads then do your timeing othere wise its just a wasit of time :)

Yes.

Car is an MQ. Engine is the L28.

Not true. You could also get Search Newb! :finger:

Anyway, wander over into the Patrol section (Patrol specific questions like this go in there ;) ) and look in the MQ/MK Bible link up the top. Scroll down to the L28 section and you'll see a link to the tuning specs. All your timing questions will be answered there!
