Turbo kit for td42
Turbo kit for td42
What is the best priced turbo kit out there for the td42
I have a GQ SWB and just do normal club trips and tow a 4.5m quintrex around every now and then.
I know there is the turbo glide for $3k supplied on ebay but is there a better price turbo kit out there.

3k is pretty cheap for a hairdryer kit w/ braided lines, all pipework etc ...
Turbo Glide looks pretty good, T28 Garrett core - capable of ~20psi (should you wish to push that much fuel though it - I would suggest it's probably a bad idea if you want longevity).
There are plenty of good kits around .... ranging from $3k --> $10k (intercooled etc).
Most do the job quite well, there are a few quirks and perks about each ...

If it's worth doing - it's worth doing to excess ...

I bought the turbo glide kit of sideshow of this board for a tidy sum. Really Neat kit. I am using the (Controversial for off road use) K & N air filter in a modified pre-cleaner box
I have it tuned to operate at around 10 psi, basically the same specs John from turbo glide would adhere to if he set it up. I maintained my standard fuel pump thus before coming onto full boost the car runs a little rich...
I had a LOT of fun w/ 33's and this setup it really does hammer along - hills were not a problem. I have since put 35's on and w/ 4.1's 4th is sort of like the 'power' gear and 5th is the overdrive. I roof tile and often drag a trailer full of roof tiling gear behind my shorty (quite heavy) coming up to a hill I would downshift to 4th select speed and cruise up.
Having said all this I did get it a bit cheaper than $3k.
If you have the money and skills to do something yourself then perhaps look at the denco kit. THe denco kit's come with a 2.5" exhaust system and according to bogged are Pissssss ezy to fit
Turbo is definately worth the investment. I mean whats the point of paying 1.37 for diesel if you are stuck going slowly........

Re: Turbo kit for td42
check the denco kit www.dencodiesel.com last time I got one it came with complete new exhaust system in the price
I fitted the MTQ/DTS kit to my TD42 over 20 000kms ago and have had no problems. My opinion was that their kit seemed to look a lot neater than others that were available. I used the aircleaner they supplied which didn't need to be mounted where the second battery lives like other kits. Mine runs around 12.5 PSI according to the gauge. I also fitted a pyrometer and have found this to be worth its weight in gold. As soon as the temp climbs to high, back off the throttle and let it find a happy medium.

Yep, even has a pretty new airfilter. Was on Sparky's GU ute. Untill he replaced it with something better.cruzzer wrote:Does that include manifold and air cleaner?turps wrote:I have a low mileage GU turbo. With 3" dump pipe and full intake (all the aircleaner pipes etc), sitting in my spare room for $1250.

Think it might need a some oil hoses. Also when it was removed they reused the oil return thing. I could probably get Juzza to have a look at it and tell me what it needs.
But is pretty much complete. From airfliter to crossover pipes.
Oh and its in Central Vic.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
12psi from factory.Dicko1980 wrote:I fitted the MTQ/DTS kit to my TD42 over 20 000kms ago and have had no problems. Bought ballbearing MTQ jobbie one week before christmas with intercooler and 3" straight thru. $4600.00 50 odd kg, $40.00 via aus post.
MTQ headquarters in QLD wanted $5300.00
Only thing is that when installing on early GU TD42 and probably any GQ's AND you want the intercooler, MTQ dont appear to supply the air filter assemlby to fit (they might not even have one) --- need to go to wrecker and get a GU air filter assembly (round one that sits in the corner) coz of where the intercooler sits. You toss away the GQ air filter assembly. Slightly bad design concept perhaps?
Other than that - mate, it sings. Best dollars Ive spent in years.
