Wagon Chop
I've just finished doing my SWB. I did most of the work myself and while it isn't an easy job, it is doable if you have half a brain and know how to use you hands. I started mine after Xmas and have just had it all engineered etc. While it is NZ they was no issues at all. I cut the front of the 'C' pillar of and slide that over the 'B' pillar, then welded the 2 together. I folded a piece of sheet for the back wall and tidied it all up, ie bogged it. It isn't a perfect job but as it is a winch truck, it only has to look good from 10 paces anway. All up including the new cage remounting the winch behind the drivers seat etc it will be less than $3K.

Thanks again for all your replys, great to hear all the different opinons. I'm in 2 minds at the moment, because I mainly wanted a ute to carry my trailbike around I am now thinking maby to just spend money on me wagon, get it how I want it, lift/tires etc. and buy a 2wd ute to run me bike round, take to work etc. I know this will be another rego but in the long run it will save me road wear n tear on the gq including tires. And by the way I talked to a guy from Grierson's at wandin about it and he quoted me 13,000 including tray. yes maby a clean job but way not worth it for me, waste of dollars unless you really wanted /needed it.

Way back when I was into pony express around SEQ I used to tow my dirtbikes around on a purpose built trailer. It was cheap to build, register, upkeep and they hold their value well.

gaint racing
where in brisbane are you and how far does 3500 get you to chop a lwb 88 model patrol to a tray or styleside ute(tray preferably)
Re: gaint racing
it was good back when cut downs were rare, but now they are bums, it will be good when people start modding utes into wagons.
Re: gaint racing
Chris and Custom 4WD Creations is on southside of Brisbane and I will say that his work is very nice. He'll do anything you want done to the Patrol right down to a very neat job of flaired/pumped factory guards, single cab, extra cab, dual cabs, etc in either tray back or style sides.GQ again wrote:where in brisbane are you and how far does 3500 get you to chop a lwb 88 model patrol to a tray or styleside ute(tray preferably)
I've seen his work first hand but give him a buzz during business hours and ask him to email you some pics of the cars he's done............very neat. Try finding somebody else around Brisbane to do ute chops this neat at the price Chris does.
BTW Chris, looks like another neat job underway there
Cheers
