Yes i searched, in fact i have just finished reading 12 or so threads on the subject. One thing that was never mentioned was that when putting the plates in to weld to the spider gears, can you put the plate right up against the gear? does the axle protrude at all inside the hemishpere? thats all im worried about, though being that it wasnt mentioned im assuming its a non issue, but better to be safe then fark a diff
Im welding a rear hilux diff if that makes any difference.

thats the thing, i stuck an axle in there and it protruded a good 10 mm in but im assuming it doesnt stick that far in, more like 5mm when the axles are in their proper place. I might just weld up all the gears as best i can and leave this area open, ill be putting an arb in there in a month or so anyway.

Dont leave it open ben it will break. Just weld it in a bit off the axels.Drop Bear wrote:thats the thing, i stuck an axle in there and it protruded a good 10 mm in but im assuming it doesnt stick that far in, more like 5mm when the axles are in their proper place. nah sorted it out, instead of putting the plates down into the hemisphere i put the plates across the top (at the inspection holes) and welded them to the gears leaving the centre section the axles go into open so the axles can go right in if need be (you can see right through), should be strong as. Looking at Ruff's pic i figured the whole hemisphere was filled with weld but i think i did it similar to what he did.
