Which is better? 4.2TD 80/100/GU?
Trying to decide what to buy... Need a 4x4 to tow my boat, do some mud driving, some hill climbs (intermediate), long on/off road trips etc.
Can't decide between the 4.2TD 80 or 100 series or the 4.2TD GU Patrol. Want something with low to mid k's.
Any suggestions what would be best...

So basically the 100 series is just a prettied up town truck? For the price of the 4.2TD I would have expected a bit more confidence in them? Like you said its almost impossible the find an 80 series with low km's. Something around 150k would be nice but is it worth the wait to find one... The GU would have been my 3rd choice but it does have the advantage price wise. I can't make a decision at the best of times, maybe i need all three ???

Again hence my point. It really is personal choice despite the opinions you'll get. Go and sit in them and drive them, pick the one you like to drive the best. Or if money is the option, get the best valued one. They are all tough and best suited to outback travelling.
Get a live axle version, which means the 80, the GU or the 4.2 non turbo 100 series (simply add a turbo kit)
Which one is the best is no different to Pepsi or Coke? Holden or Ford? etc etc.... The products are essentially the same, and it's only really opinion that splits them.

is it the 24 valve model, its better?
is it engineered cos it needs to be?
it wont be with those 10in wide rims so they will need changing + tyres.
should be manual if your gonna do a fair bit of towing or fit a trans cooler.
doesnt take much b4 your spending the big bucks if you buy something that looks the biz but doesnt work.
the 80's are generally stronger than the 100's and the patrols are generally stronger and cheaper and but dont drive aswell as the 80 or 100. i put my money on a well maintained td80 24v if your not in a hurry.

I've seen too many diff breakages on my mates Hungy's to really go one. But these guys were going the rocks hard so if you are only towing and touring with intermediate off road then maybe the hungy is the way for you.
