pretty sure droves and non jx sierras didnt come with tachos, so not the point, offer him some advice on how to wire it up.
you would have to get your signal off the coil +ve. have a play around and see if you can get it to work.

go to a wrecker and buy an instrument cluster with the tacho on it - they come from any JX model 1.3L...
Once you have that, rip out the current cluster, install the new one and it will look much nicer than any aftermarket tacho...
once you have that job complete, all you have to do is pop the bonnet, and look at the coil - there will be a male and female plug connector that is not plugged in... plug it in and welcome to the world of tacho-happiness.
cheers.
p.s. if i can complete the above operation - anyone can.

There's no good place to put an aftermarket tach where it's easy to see at a glance. I bought a replacement cluster with tach on eBay. Easy plug in installation. Ain't nothing like the real thing, baby...

nice thanks for the links vagabond
it looks like the dude i bought the drover off may have had a tacho on it previously.. there are a few holes in the dash (looks like he just tec screwed everything to the dash) one hole is on the drivers side on top of the dash, above the air vent. i was thinking of mounting one there...
in dash would be gold it would look a lot neater for sure.
thanks again for all the replies fellas.

Did you find a tacho style dash, if you still looking i know of one in a wrecked car over here in NSW if ya interested could pass on ya number to them or something. PM me if ya want. As for install, easy as piss as already said. Negative at coil, battery +, and earth for the tacho, and a headlight or ign supply and earth for the internal tacho light.

yes so on my pc now... sorry bro
i have it earthed and connected to battery, switched 12v and to coil.
i wasnt sure if there is something basic that i should try. i have put a inline fuse in front of the power coming from battery and the fuse is fine.
its a autometer 60 buck job from Autopro. no shift light. its 2" one.
