265/70/16 OR 265/75/16

hi i have a triton with 2 inch body lift and at the moment it has 265/70/16..is there much of a height differanc in getting 265/75/16..if not i was thinking of getting 285/75/16..my cousin has a 100series cruiser and next 2 mine they look about 2 inch higher

In round figures:

265/70-16 = 31"
265/75-16 = 32"
285/75-16 = 33"

265/75-16 is the most widely available tyre size in Australia these days - if you plan to do much outback touring, this is something to keep in mind.

if i go for the 285/75/16 i will lose alot of power thr triton is TD

2.5 or 2.8? Either way, I don't think you'll have a lot of trouble. Does it struggle now?

Yes. Moving from 31" tyres to 33" tyres will make your gearing "taller" by 6 or 7 percent. For example, let's say (I'm guessing) your engine spins at 2600 rpm at 100km/h with your 31" tyres. With 33" tyres, at 2600 rpm, you would be travelling at 106 or 107km/h (but your speedo will still indicate 100 km/h - it doesn't know your tyres have changed.)

Hill starts my be a fraction harder, and engine braking on steep descents will be reduced marginally. But the 2.8tdi has good grunt, and engine braking is already pretty good, so this shouldn't be a huge problem.

Bottom line is, many people here run 33" tyres (or larger) in heavier vehicles with less powerful engines than yours. We're happy - I think you will be too.

Just do it.
