any one suggest some places to get rebuilt motor
hi all
um i need a new engine for my 4B
basically its got a 12R toyota motor
im having a little trouble finding a rebuilt 12R
im after a short block to save some $$$$$ but if i can get a long motor at the right price ill take one
if any one knows of a company that can help either has one or can get one
i dont really want to put a diffrent engine in as i will need to get it engineered and ever more $$$$ i cant afford and the time having it off the road etc etc
plus i wouldnt be able to drive it wilst im still on my p's as the conversion would be seen as a performance modification or sumthing
if i cant find a rebuilt motor i will have to get a clapped out motor and get it rebuilt but probalyl will cost more $$$$$
any one can help please do
cheers

A 12R is a VERY old motor and I doubt you can do a changeover anywhere. If you are lucky enough to find one it's probably out of an early hiace or dyna with a bazillion km's on it.
They were also in the toyota corona from 1970-1973.
Sounds more suitable to get a swap with a later engine that will fit - you might even need a later Hilux bellhousing.
Given the chance to ditch a 12R to a 2T, 3T, 3TGTE, RA21 etc something similar most people wouldnt even think twice.
Given the weight of the car I doubt that anyone would consider it a performance modification to use a later model engine from the same vehicle.

still if ive under stood the rules for nsw correctly i cannot drive any thing with any modifications of any sort
and i think a engine conversion can diffenently be called a modification all be it for what ever reason
i have had a few offers of 12R's but most have been siting a wile or they are really clapped out
my next other choice is to chuck a conversion in for a 18r but i really dont wana have to do any of that
hoping to get a decent 12r but im not liking my chances
cheers

Shouldn't take more than a week at most, friends family to give lifts?? Boss/workmates even? You'll possibly save a bit especially if you buy a clapped out one and then get it rebuilt.runnin4life wrote:wats stopping me is the time with out my car i cant afford public transport and a engine rebuild

60 + Turbo, 33"s
The 12R is a solid reliable old piece of crap. They're nothing high tech but they still did the job, much better than some of their replacements. Gimme one of them any day over the 18R that replaced it. Blurgh!
They're about as simple as engines go in this day and age - and 30 years ago they still were
12R toyotas and 1200-1500 dattos are as simple as engines come.
If you're just talking pistons, rings etc this is about as basic as a rebuild gets. Im assuming you just wanna stop the smoke and oil burning.
If you can't afford public transport and an engine rebuild I'd be finding a new car...... public transport aint that expensive for a week.
If you're worried about being off the road, buy a clapped out corona motor at a wreckers for $100 and get that rebuilt. Or just swap it and good luck.
