My tunnel is that hot that it can be barely touched on a hot day.It also gets hot when under load up a hill.Even when temp gauge is sitting on 1/4.
Have tried:
Lifting front of bonnet to get cool air-----DIDNT WORK
Lifting rear of bonnet-----DIDNT WORK
Cool air from behind wheel to tunnel------DIDNT WORK
Have spoken to a guy with a GU scoop on his V8 GQ--cannot tell much difference.
Motor doesnt run hot but it is on gas.
Any ideas?????

is there a rear heater in that vehicle? i know in mine i had a rear heater and the coolant pipes ran down the trans tunnel right next to my left calf and one day the on/off switch for the heater in the rear was bumped on and allowed the coolant to flow, hence getting vf hot in a short period of time. i pulled the heater assembly out anyway to allow me to store 6 tallies in the centre console, and i removed the 'T' that fed coolant down the pipes and blew them out with compressed air.
I have an 89 GQ carby 4.2 and it does exactly the same thing.
Gearshaft on a hot day gets extremely hot as does the stubby stick. I thought it must have had something to do with the bodlylift, as the radiator shroud was altered, but from discussions with other guys who own that model they say its normal.
As you say temp gauge stays normal.
It does annoy me immensely and the inclusion of a thermo fan did nothing to help it

It does have carpet.
I dont recall it doing it before the body lift so i cant see how heat shields will stop it(have been wrong before)
