Purchasing a Jeep cherokee for the miss's

Post by Funk_off »

Hi Peoples, Im just wondering if anyone has any opinions of the new jeep cherokees. Its for my partner, and we were just looking for a 4b that will handle well on the road and has the capabilities to do trips too Stradboke and other soft 4b trips.

Thanks

I,ve tried to buy a Jeep a couple of times. After everyone I know trys to kick some sense into me, I go and test drive regardless only to remind myself why I didn,t buy one last time. Look great but thats about as far as it goes.
Buy Japanese and when,if, something goes wrong you,ll be the minority not the majority. I got my wife a 120 prado, armchair on wheels, plenty of grunt in petrol, fuel economy? did I mention plenty of grunt. :D :D
I started out with nothing and still have most of it left !

Why do you want to buy her a Jeep? Don't you like her? :finger:

The diesel engine seems to have a good reputation. Let HER test drive it, and see what she says.

I would not even go there. Big dramas. My mate bought his misses the new pathfinder 6speed manuel turbo diesel and it goes like the clappers.

What are all these issues that you guys mention. Curious as I own an XJ Cherokee and take it everywhere and have had 0 problems.

So far I've had ot for 80,000kms, been to Fraser twice, Cameron Corner, Flinders and many club trips etc. Have 4" of lift 31's and numerous other bits.

I haven't heard of any inherent problems with the KJ Cherokee either.

They apparently have some sort of 'over-heating' issue :?

Only ones I've had any experience with are the guys in the Sydney Jeep Club, they all perform well and not one has caught on fire ;)

The guy above said he had zero issues in 80,000 Kms .. thats not bad (for a jeep) ... The stories must come from somewhere.

X2 - chicks look hot driving wranglers, same thing as when driving utes. Dunno why. The cherokee is more of a MILF thing - still a good look, just depends on what suits your missus.

my brother has had a jeep for about 5 years without any problems, auto does tend to get hot when towing his van but not hot enough to burst into flames. we put him in front on the beach to level the tracks, it handy how they put the cross menber on a angle to act as a grader blade

Stereotype all you like - it's a Jeeps thing I don't understand. :finger:

Can't afford a Toyota.
Don't want a Nissan.
Don't understand the Jeep thing.

Issues with Jeeps that I know of are -

cherokee ruins rear axles and diffs and there are no real second hand ones to be had - because they are all had it- new set of axles and diff fitted drive in/drive out $2K

Hard on tyres - rears tend to get eaten out badly because people drive them like a cut snake in rear wheel drive and smoke the tyres up all the time - front left tyres seem to wear really badly - most people end up putting quite a hard compound tyre on the car to get some good milage out of the tyres - this in turn effects the ride and handly (i.e. makes them drive poorly)

The rear axle thing is by far the most common complaint I have heard from jeep cherokee owners. Other than that - careful if you buy one off a yard their steam cleaners usually ruin the gems ecu under the bonnet - another tidy $900
