I got my sump moded on the weekend and there appears to be a tiny leak from one of the welds. Can this be welded up while its on the car or do i have to remove the sump again :(
I prob wouldnt weld it unless you are happy to poor water in it if needed. I have seen a nice oil fire inside an engine from doing this.
Best thing would be drain the oil. Clean the area real well and use some kind of Liquid steel. It works real well as long as the area is clean of oil first.
Just take the sump of and do it properly unless its a shitbox, or risk burning it out, and make sure it holds water this time and leave the water in for some time to prove it before refitted... Liquid steel is great stuff but doesn't like oily residue much so if you take the lazy way, cleanliness is the key
Wanted: Car trailer or beaver tail truck, let me know what you got
I would clean the inside out with a degreaser, buy some crc contact cleaner spray all the welds on the outside and make sure the whole thing is really really clean, then fill the sump with diesel.
Diesel is the most penetrating thing around, if there is a leak some where diesel will find it, it will even leak from holes the oil wont.
