wondering if anyone in the brisbane area knows of good diesel pump/injector workshops?

i currently have a 3.9 isuzu 4BD1 in my defender and going to turo it next week (10-12Psi) Need someone GOOD preferrably with experience with these motors to advance timing and play with pump for me.

have spoken to highway diesel, they seem ok but would like to talk to a few other people to get other prices and opinions? i have been quoted min $800m poss. up to $1200 for thw work? thought there may be somenone bit cheaper but still trustworhty out there?

I've had my N/A 4BE1 to Highway Diesel twice in the last 18 months. Have always been happy with their work. First time was for injector work. Second was for a pump overhaul.

Work has always been good with noticable improvements in power etc.

The price on the pump rebuild got away though from the original quote without them warning me as time went on. To their credit, they recognised this and discounted the final price on labour.

DEF90,

Just done a spot of 'tuning' on the weekend with mine, LOOONNNGGG hills, 110 kmhr in overdrive lock up, ALL THE WAY UP. Good fuel economy so far, in the region of 22MPG driven town and highway. Bear in mind I have a ZF auto, so you should easily use less fuel. You won't believe the difference with turbocharging, try intercooling if there is enough room to fit one, and you will need to upgrade the size of your intake system if you haven't alredy done it. My intake pipe from The snorkel base to the turbo inlet, 2 7/8" diameter, gets sucked in under full boost/ fuel. I will have to go 3" and make rigid elbows to stop this. I didn't realise just how much air these engines need!!!

I have always used Diesel Australia at Slacks Ck. (Dan St???). I have been happy with their work and their prices. Haven't had any major pump work done, but they rebuild 4BD1 pumps all the time.

thanks hepas fellas got some more ideas to run with, will let u know how she goes with the hairdryer on da side!! yes i will be squeezing in some kind of intercooler!! i think i'll be having sleepless nites till next week in anticipation!

Years ago I had a Peugeot Turbo Diesel which I had Rocklea Diesel Injector Service rebuild the pump and replace the injectors for me. I remember seeing heaps of army landrovers there getting pump rebuilds. I think they may have had a contract with the govt. They did an excellent job on my old pug.

They are located on Ipswich Road at Rocklea.

thanx for all the help, made my mind up now going to a mob at kingston, knows 4BD1's very well aparently so got confidence from him, does fair bit of race preping for gu's n gq's diesels etc.

opted (to start with) just to do a tweak and adjust without pulling it off on the dyno to save bucks - couple if hundred, wait couple of years to do full pump and injectors then...keep you updated

ben......race is on!!!!! (am i allowed to take of the 35's though and go for some cheesecutters?)

Why not - it won't help you. :D We should do sam and chuck's method of swapping cars for the race. Sam and I did that with his 110 and mine. Sam beat me (in my 110), even though it was on 33's and sam's had 32s.

i thought they'd be lighter and help gearing? but bugger all i suppose...we're on 'the great race' tickets selling now for late 2006? 1/4 mile and 0-100km (if we got a spare 1/2 hr)

We did it both ways - started out with him driving my car and me driving his, then swapped back to our own cars - my car won both times.

It removed driver skill (or lack of) from the test.

:D :D :D sounds good.

Smaller tyres do help for the reasons you mentioned, and rolling resistance if you are changing from chunky muds to skinny ATs.

Yeah but your chipped rocket ship will probably whip our asses. Does yours sound like a jet taking off, like some of the other chipped TD5's I have seen?
