I know i don't believe that ,don't believe everything you read.I don't care who does the tests...when im on a good thing i'll stick to it ,so a K&N it will be.If i was driving in really dusty conditions i'll run a precleaner in my snorkel.I'll change my oil every 5000kms and run Synthetic.

cheap k&n air filter for sierra
I posted up links to 2 independant tests. Believe them or not the data is there.
BTW my second job is in a filter factory making industrial filter housings and elements.
K&N are great filters for performance vehicles in lower dust environments like on road.
Data indicates as the level of filter saturation rises so does the filter efficiency, but the ability to flow air through the filter decreases.
So .. K&N are not so great in high dust conditions as when they are clean they let more particulate matter pass than OEM.
When they are filtering at the same level as a OEM filter they usually have a lower flow rate than an OEM filter.
There is some really crap filters (all types oil, air, fuel, etc) imported into Australia sold after market so buyer beware there. Stick to well known brands from reputable outlets if OEM is too expensive as the imports are coming in as counterfit known brands too.

Just to add to this debate.
I used to run a K&N filter on the zook, and i constantly go offroad in v/dusty conditions. usually limestone or pea gravel dust.
I used to have heaps of carby blocking up issues. Since i have changed back to the normal $10 OEM filter, i have had next to no issues.
I did as they said to wash it often enough , it usually had some dirt or oil on it as well.
