this will also help you to drive through the first and fourth layer of gravity, pitty it's no help with the second and third layers.

How do we get to the 4th layer if we cant get through the 2nd and 3rd?mooman wrote:bushpig59 wrote:I tihnk that piece has Na4(Ca,Ce)2(Fe,Mn,Y) ZrSi8O22(OH,Cl)2 in it and as such is to be treated very careful the radiation from the cat converter . This is WRONG. A catalyst, by definition, does NOT take part in the reaction, and is therefore NOT "used up".Gutless wrote:They are made with platinum inside of them. But this materials is "USED UP" over time as part of a chemical reaction that is necessary to remove the polutants from the exhaust gas.
After a few years a Cat converter rarely does its job anymore tho, cos the platinum is all but gone.

Instead of just saying WRONG, explain why a cat no longer continues to function correctly.Vagabond wrote:This is WRONG. The answer is that converter ceramic matrix that holds the platinum and rhodium (I think) catalysts can become coated with other metals and gunk from the engine (The cat converter is only designed to cope with normal emissions, when your motor starts burning oil, or runs to rich/lean etc emissions can get beyond what the catalyst can break down allowing things like zinc and lead to get deposited reducing the available surface area available to catalyze the other nasties)
Also catalytic converters only work above certain temps round 200c from memory ...
Wonder how the ceramic substrate goes with being rapidly cooled like when you fall into a bog hole or creek crossing ??? anyone know ??

this is how the MVR (or inspection dudes at the pits) check to see if a cat has been hollowed out. a lot of people dont want to get stung for not having a cat, and if they are poor also, they will just hollow out their cat. usually with a long pole and a large hammer of sorts.love_mud wrote:

now for the MVR dudes to find out, they can sometimes use a termometer heat thingy to see if its actually above a certain temperature, meaning that there is still something (eggs) inside the cat.
and...
and i think this might be the reason why my cat laid all its eggs, (or shit itself) as we drive on the hwy for about 15mins to go wheeling, and everything is super hot, and then we just dunk the zooks stright into the 1st river we come accross.love_mud wrote:

Oh and a catalyst will not be used up in a perfect reaction ... introduce other chemicals to the equation and it's anyones guess ...Vagabond wrote:This is WRONG. E.g., quick way to block a cat up, run a motor real rich like a non sealing needle valve in a carb, and bang, it melts the honeycomb and blocks your exhaust. Cats have a effective heat range, and outside that hte reaction will not occour and damage is possible to the cat.

Sorry I just picked up on this post as I had another space rift it took this amount of time to pick it up. Wow its getting more difficult tp pick these rifts in time.mnemonix wrote:I feel your pain.bushpig59 wrote:I tihnk that piece has Na4(Ca,Ce)2(Fe,Mn,Y) ZrSi8O22(OH,Cl)2 in it and as such is to be treated very careful the radiation from the cat converter . It caused such a shift in the space time continuum, that this happened to me NEXT week
But more importantly did the new cat converter cost alot and was it really the initial fault?
