Bio-diesel in a GU TD42T / LR 200tdi?
Local dude in town apparently is the first bloke in NSW to sell bio-diesel from canola. (Not gonna argue if he isn't). Anyway, apparently he cruises to Melbourne once a week and grabs a load.
Any thoughts on running a GU TD42T or an old clunker land rover 200tdi on it? Harmful?
He is selling the stuff at $1.23 per litre. Normal diesel is around the $1.389 mark at the moment.

Here is the best place to ask biodiesel questions:
http://www.biofuelsforum.com/
But from what I know:
If the biodiesel is good quality, filtered (to what size???) and most importantly WASHED, then it should be able to be run in almost any injector pump without ill effects. Biodiesel has better lubricity than ultra low sulphur diesel, and 5% canola biodiesel is added to normal diesel in europe now to bring the lubricity up to acceptable standards.
The LR Tdi has the bosch VE injector pump, which is fitted to every TD/TDI VW engine up until 2000. There are literally millions of them driving around Germany on Biodiesel with no ill effects (available at the pump over here).
What injector pump does the Nissan have - diesel kiki, denso? either way it should be fine too.

You are talking about SVO (straight vegetable oil). This is something different again. Biodiesel is diesel made from vegetable oil by transesterifying the fat molecules into smaller molecules to change the melting point and viscosity of the vegetable oil so that it is similar to diesel. So it is just like diesel - fill up and drive. No twin tanks or diesel start required.RockyF70 wrote:x2460cixy wrote:wouldent bother unless it was alot cheaper
But cxan you find out if he treats it with anything, and what? DIY in backyard- i'm trying to mentally work out a way of doing it, but they dont make auxillary tanks for my model, and you need to start your car on reg diesel

bio
i have a mate in bris that runs the odd tank of bio in his county, don't know how well its filtered but after seeing the sludge that sometimes comes out of his filters i would definitely run 2 good easy cleanable filters!
Ok after reading into that forum a bit it appear the servo at Milperra had a falling out with Morris the guy whose biodiesel it is. There's about 6000L of B50 and 100L of B100 left but they won't take sales through the shop/register. SO... he's agreed to be there between 9 and 12 tomorrow (friday 16th) and saturday (17th) for cash sales only... I'm probably going to grab 80 or so litres and see how it goes.
