Build Up - project Jaffoki - new revised height 3/4/06
Build Up - project Jaffoki - new revised height 3/4/06
OK, Redzook complained that there weren't enough build ups happening around here. So in an effort to help fix that (my excuse and i'm sticking to it) i've aquired another Zook.
I'm now the owner of Jaffa, Sierra SWB hard top, F6A turbo, 1.0ltr transfer. Currently has no diffs but that will change very shortly.
Specs to be
1.0ltr Diffs
31" tyres
Shackles
Springs
A little trimming
RUF with chassis extension
maybe buggy leaf rear
Welded front and rear
Power steer
Some new paint
Later (after the afterbirth of Nuki is done) i'll probably do a ute chop.
Well I'm guessing that they didn't think everyone would carry on like a big bunch of sooky girls over it like they have........
I think these 2 things together could easily mean being able to choose the wheelbase that you want.RUF with chassis extension
maybe buggy leaf rear
Even without a chassis ext to the rear, a buggy leaf set up could be moved rearwards.

OK picked up the car last night. Things to do:
-Tidy wiring
-respary, still not decided on colour
-new rear bar and tail lights
-fit windscreen
-re attach bull bar
-tighten the nut that holds the pitman arm on (not even finger tight)
-fit shocks, interesting to drive without any on there now.
-fit the newly aquired "special" hilux diffs (Thanks Pete, you da' king)
Will start work on it on Monday and hopefully have it atleast drivable again on its new diffs and body ready to paint on Tuesday night.

OK, it seems as if Bubs is pulling his finger out and getting stock into his at a rapid rate so i had better keep up.
The new screen is now in, even fitted new wiper blades. Then discovered the wiper motor was cactus, luckily i have spares. All fixed now.
Have just measured some springs, looks like Hilux springs in the rear and rear sierra springs in the front. Should give me 4" wheelbase extension. Still undecided on SPOA SPUA but will have to wait for the diffs to work that out.
And if you have spare parts lying around and think, "i'll give that stuff away, i won't need it" think again. I need some rear tail light lenses, i gave the old ones away
Front shocks also in for the moment until i fit the new diffs.
Looks like its to be painted yellow with metallic purple flames (see pic ripped off that someone here did for BIGSTEVE ages ago) or possibly red with purple, at least it will match the hilux then.

I never left
Actually i've checked in from time to time to see how the gang is going. Not much appears to of changed though You are correct Graham I don't own a 4x4 nor do I go 4 wheel driving but technically that puts me almost in the same class as you hehehe
Queensland/Brisbane is very nice in deed, makes me wonder why I didn't do it 5 years ago. There are heaps more zooks kicking around up here than Melbourne.

OK, so i got bored tonight. Finished work, looked at the car, looked at the spray booth, looked at the car, grabbed the sandpaper.
Less than 2 hours later its now black and shiny. Booty fab paint work, even painted over the existing dents and run marks curtisy of Brendan's last paint job.
Will most likely end up with red flames over the bonnet and guards but it will do for now.
Still have no shocks in the rear end, axle wrap is obviously exaggerated, however i'm thinking by the time i build a trac bar i may as well just do coils in the rear. I have a set of Vitara rear links lying around, the bushes fit into the spring mounts, i figure what do i have to loose
So over the next week it will most likely receive coils in the rear. Just need to pick up the diffs and its all go. Will post up some pics of the booty fab paint work tomorrow.

Went for another quick drive tonight, have decided coils in the rar for sure, really can't be stuffed making a trac bar when i have perfectly good GQ links and mounting tabs that can be used.
Question is, what coils should i use
Car will sit at SPOA height (flatish sierra springs) and am prepared to notch the chassis if needed.
Will run standard GQ uppers (triangulated) with standard GQ lowers.

Was thinking the same however from memory they are quite long and would put the car stoopid high. Anyone know what height they actually are?antt wrote:wrangler coils?

I've got 5 pairs of different coils that I can take off my zook if your interested....Only want about $100 for them....they are off my zook which was converted to coils and hilux diffs. I'm going to Airshox so don't need them.
There is set that are about 2" lift (depending on where your coil hat sits)
A set of probably 4" lift ones which are softish, but awesome for offroad.
And a pair of really stiff front ones for road use.
The top of my rear springs sits level with the top of the chassis. The front springs have a tall hat on them, probably 6" higher than the top of the chassis.
Check out my members thread for pics of them in action...and let me know if you interested and we'll work something out.

They are std. coily zook diameter coils, but all custom ordered from Dobinsons.

Cheers mate, have arranged for some Zookish coils from Twisty Toy but am looking at using the TJ's on the red car.
Update,
-Chassis extension now 2/3rds complete
-Diffs here and ready to be checked then installed
-Running properley now, was starving for fuel, turns out it was sucking air from a bad connection.

OK,
Chassis extension now done, braced and fish plates, shackle mounts done
The two hilux arms are prepped and ready to go to the welders tomorrow
Bars measured, hopefully have them soon from the bender
Will get some pics tomorrow. Plans are to have the front diff in this week (heaps of work type work to do unfortunately) and the steering sorted. Rear diff next week.
