Idler Arm

Post by HeathGQ »

My sister-in-law is in need of a new Idler Arm for a wide track Feroza- the ball joint is rooted. Does anyone have a source for one, as the local mech cant seem to find one (i.e. he hasnt tried hard enough)...

I got a quote on one from my mechanic and he would replace both the idler and pitman arm for $400 and that was with new parts. Give him a ring @ Dai Auto parts in Braeside Vic. Just google the number.

The bushes wont do anything for the arm if its the ball joint that is stuffed.

I found www.daicare.com.au in Sydney near cronulla were good on prices back when I last did idlers.

They post to you.

Where is this ball joint located? The idler arm is over the front passenger side isn't it- does it hang off that?

Symptoms...

Wandering steering, pulls significantly to the left, play in the steering wheel (although this can be your steering uni joints).

To check it out, jack the left wheel up off the ground and shake it laterally, if there is movement you'll feel it and you will be able to see the idler moving at the "ball" or swivel joint where it connects to the steering rack, if the bushes are worn you'll see movement in the end where the arm joins the chassis on a pin...

look under the passenger side and all will be apparent, odds on if you have donr more than 100000km and not replaced it it'll need it sooner or later. I was told its the first casualty with lift or a set of bigger tyres.

same deal when the suspenson is raised and has extra stress on them, they flog out and you get play in the joints on them.
too much play in the front end then, makes cross winds on the hi way a pain in the ass.
